So, anyone seen it? Frankly I wasn't that impressed for the following reasons

The beginning seemed really promising with the first battle, and the better than normal usage of the turtle formation etc. All down hill from there though. To me, it felt like the momentum of the movie was completely crushed by the 20 minutes of surgeries and whining that followed. He then saves Esca, but I still don't get how it happened. Everyone is cheering for his death and one person starts cheering for him to live. Is there any possible way that would make people completely change their minds?

That nitpick aside though, it seemed like the quest to find the eagle could be really interesting, and to an extent I thought it was. But, theres only so many shots of someone climbing through woods and riding their horses that I can take. The roles being shifted on the slave/master scale was interesting, but it was just too predictable that Esca was going to save him. I really would have much preferred if it turned out Esca really did betray him, and he had to get out of it using his own creativity and survival skills.

The fight to save the Eagle also seemed odd to me. I get that all the legionaries were deserters, but where did they come from? Unless they were all of the same tribe, it seems very odd to me that they could get them all together on that short of notice. After all, it had been 20 years. Also, how was the armor not in worse shape? Overall, I thought it was a decent time waster, but I was pretty disappointed by it since I had expected a movie with a lot more Roman aspects to it.

Worth renting I think, but nothing that special. 3/5
