You didn't like Abaddon's Gate? I quite liked that one. Now, the fourth one was utter trash.

I also thought book 3 was good. The authors are really good at coming up with new characters I like just as much as the old characters.

The narrator for the book 4 audiobook is so bad I haven't been able to get through it yet.

Just binge watched it. Good tv, worth my time. It reminds me of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress which is one of my favourite books and it gives off some of the same vibes and elements I found interesting. Second season is weaker, some of the new characters and the direction of the plot just doesn't click for me.

Love this show - we just burned through the first two seasons on Amazon Prime for the 3rd time. Third season premieres Wednesday at 9pmEDT/8pm CDT.

So, the show has been dropped by SYFY after this third season.

Alcon Television Group is looking for someone to buy it. Netflix has the international rights but are reportedly not interested in picking it up. Amazon being the one with the streaming rights for this las season seems like the best bet for keeping the show alive.

A GoFundMe campaign reached its goal to fly a plane with a banner with the hashtag #SaveTheExpanse in front of Amazon Studio's HQ.

It would be an utter crime if they drop this show. One of the few things I planned to get the full Bluray Set just to support the efforts.

That's great news. Syfy just didn't have the budget to keep it going another season.

Amazon certainly does though and they are gagging for a mainstream hit to compete with Netflix shows. I imagine that if the writers stay on, the budget will get even higher and it will probably become Prime's "big" property if the LOTR prequel series crashes and burns.

Haha, too true. I have very low hopes for the LOTR prequel.

I saw like 3 episodes of this and then got bored, just couldn't get into it.

That's fair. The first season is deliberately slow though. Doesn't really pick up until Miller joins up with the Roci crew.

Sad to see a lukewarm reception to the books in here. I've watched season one a while back but don't have the time to watch much tv these days so tried picking up the books instead. I'm halfway through the first book and it's holding my attention pretty well, but I guess I'll repress my usual habit of purchasing an entire book series at once in favour of going one at a time.

Err, what lukewarm reception? The books, for what they are, are very enjoyable! Not masterpieces, but still really good.

Definitely agree so far. Let's hope the bad reviews I've seen are just bitches bitching and it keeps on as good.

Binged all three seasons. It's a good show with a consistently high quality in vfx, zero-g is heavily implemented in the narrative and its effects are incredibly well researched. The adhesion of tears in the latest season is one example of that.

Plot-wise, I didn't particularly care for how prominently the story came to revolve around the plot device of the alien tech. The ending of S3 feels like a rehash of Mass Effect. The inter-planetary Sol system politics, the worldbuilding and the examination of human relations & identity were what hooked me in the show. It seems sci-fi authors have a common tendency to let their ambition in incorporating as much sci-fi themes as they can in their worlds that they become narratively over-burdened. In any case, I enjoyed what I got from the things I tuned in to see, even if the story turned away from them ultimately.

It's certainly not going to be a contender for show of the decade, but it outperforms the stagnant library of recent sci-fis that it's still incredibly enjoyable for anyone who just loves the genre.
