After what seemed ages, Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four" finally get a trailer. Or, at least, a teaser.

I actually am loving the trailer. It gives more of a sci-fi vibe first and super hero vibe later. Most would say this is a bad thing, but even Marvel has done it before. I do agree the teaser is a little bit cliched, with the voice over and stuff, but most of them are. Of course, this is just a trailer so we will have to wait an see. Any thoughts?

I feel the same way about this trailer as I did with the Ant-Man one. Old guy does voice over, shots of people walking places and sitting in front of computers, vague glimpses of the special effects, and nothing to hint at the plot. Going in I expected to not like this movie and the trailer didn't change my opinion negatively or positively. So as far as the trailer itself, it didn't do a good job of making me actually want to see this movie.

It's just so bland. I don't get any sense of the characters, little about the plot, and there isn't even anything to at least make you go "Oh that's cool!" Just...meh. Distinctly meh.

    That trailer felt extremely self-important.

Well, it looks better than the old FF movies, but that's not hard in the least.

Black!Johnny and Blogger!Doom overwrite any spark of interest I have.

    Also, all those dislikes. Lol.

    EDIT: FANTFOURSTIC

    Wait what? You're kidding, right?

Welp. So much for that. How does that even work out? Is Sue even his sister here anymore or did they change that too?

No, I think you can see him in the trailer. The one working on the car. I thought the race switch was well known by now.

One of the two is adopted I'd assume. There's a black doctor in the trailer you see that might be Dr. Storm, which I think would mean Sue's the adopted one.

It's a really pointless move, but even so it's not nearly as damaging as what they're doing to Doom.

Capeshit isn't my preferred genre of films. Maybe a guilty pleasure, every now and again, but rarely so with the stuff they pump out nowadays.

Did they even give a reason for this change? Other than the usual 'we must pointlessly diversify' nonsense I mean.

    Do elaborate.

I'll just quote the actor from this interview he gave a while back.

Wait, they did what with Doom?! I actually had no idea.

I still feel it's a good teaser on itself. There is a lot of the Fantastic Four-ness missing in it, besides a shot of The Thing and other of Johnny on flames, but it could still make for solid movie. This is just a teaser, not a trailer. I honestly don't mind the race change even when it's just done for the sake of 'political correctness.' I guess I'm just that attached to the character, I hated the change when it happened to Wally West.

Papa Storm and Mama Storm loved each other very much...

    :sherlock:

IMO, they should have made Sue black as well, but whatever. Not like they don't have enough buxom Aryan goddesses in comics.

Before you know it, they'll be diversified as well.

My main complaint is that it feels cheep, change for the sake of pandering some modern trend. I wonder if we'll ever get to see a black superhero/superheroine turned white. I'd love to see a reaction to that.

Doom is a blogger. How wonderfully mad.

There's not enough prominent minority superheroes to whitewash. You've got Kamala Khan, John Stewart, Storm, T'Challa, Shuri, Falcon, Luke Cage, Misty Knight, Jaime Reyes, Static Shock and Miles Morales. That's pretty much it for what counts as "top-level" minority superheroes.

I don't particularly care for it myself, and I understand the dismay of long-time fans, but the only reason I got into comics and superheroes myself was because there was a Third-World character like the Black Panther to do that, after stuff like Batman, Superman, Spiderman completely failed to do more than be a source of weekly cartoons.

That kind of introductory experience is what movie and comic book companies want, to build lifelong fanbases for these characters, aka continual revenue streams.

Problem is, very rarely is it done well or respectfully, with it usually just feeling like tokenism or insulting.

Turning the Storm kids black isn't the worst idea in the world, and I personally could go for it. But it really could do with some great execution.

And hell, you want to see complaints? Look at when they give easy minority roles away like in Exodus or The Lone Ranger to the whitest white boys they can find. People complain then, and it gets waved away because "We want to sell tickets with recognizable faces and the film wo". Which is true is very true on Hollywood's part, and is part of their really schizophrenic attitudes. See also the magical gay, magical negro and whatever other crazy stereotype Hollywood still thinks is good for use.

I initially was against it, but I really like the actor who plays the Human Torch (Michael B. Jordan). I still think the movie's gonna be godawful, but I'm not really bothered by black!torch anymore.
