One of the better articles from a former anti-GG journalist, although a section of it did bother me.

Autism is a tiny, tiny fraction of why the 'Gamers are Dead' angle pissed everyone off. It wasn't misunderstood allegorical rhetoric, it was a series of snide, condescending attacks against the traditional consumer base of 'gamers'. The impression I got was of a schoolyard bully mocking somebody, taking something of theirs away, and claiming that it belonged to the 'normal kids' instead of freaks like gamers.

Whether you play games or not isn't relevant to these people, but if somebody identifies as a gamer, then they just got told that they were obsolete troglodites, and their hobby belonged to the cool kids now. Bye bye. Don't let the door fuck you in the ass on your way out. Nerd.

Despite the positive and rational attitude in the rest of the article, this fixation on autism really pissed me off. It hearkens back to the social justice warrior morality, wherein you're obliged to be aware of anybody who fits into one of the oppressed little snowflake categories; women, gays, anyone vaguely ethnic, the disabled. Anyone who doesn't have one of these little boxes checked? Fuck them fuckers.

I know it doesn't need said on DLP, which has a surprisingly good heart, despite our reputation elsewhere in the fandom, but being a dick to somebody is always bad. Not just when society is already a dick to them. "White male cis ablist etcetera privilege" doesn't mean it's okay to manually adjust everybody's level of oppression by being a dick to the people who may or may not have it easy. These calls to be nice to GamerGate because of autism are ridiculous. Civilized, rational debate isn't a pity-prize for the oppressed, it's a basic tenet of succesful human discourse.

I don't want this post to look like I'm sneering at anyone autistic - pro-GamerGate or opposed to it. I think of this approach in the same way as Anita Sarkeesian's approach to women in gaming. I dislike seeing people relentlessly painted as the victim. As helpless little children who need to be protected by the high-and-mighty social justice fanatics. We've seen countless examples of how women can succeed in the gaming industry, and although the portrayal of women is usually unfair or sexist, that's only a reflection of the attitudes that Western society has as a whole.

Autistic people aren't helpless babies, just as women aren't damsels in distress, yearning for a white knight and lacey underwear. Painting the whole of GamerGate as autistic, and therefore needing to be treated sensitively,is just an attempt to shift the victimization back around. Victim fetishisation is crass and lazy.

As someone who has supported GamerGate from the beginning, let me say this: we're not the victim of the corrupt media. This whole thing has been us standing up, fighting back, and refusing to take the shit that's been liberally smeared on us. Don't support GamerGate because we're the victim in this argument. Don't do it because we're autistic. Do it as the result of rational consideration of what GamerGate is attempted to achieve. Anything less is just the fickle, ignorant mob who chose sides early on out of sentiment. That happened on both sides: 99% of anti-GamerGaters joined ranks without checking the facts, without wanting to check the facts, and blatantly ignoring anything which conflicts with their opinion.

Far too many people who are ostensibly supporting GamerGate are only doing it to spit in the face of 'feminists'. Feminists were never the problem with gaming media. Anything that you thought feminists caused, was actually done by a group of insincere dickheads using feminism as an excuse to feel smugly superior to everybody within spitting distance. I know it's hard to tell the two apart sometimes until you test their blood for rabies or get close enough to see the froth in their mouths, but I honestly believe that your average GamerGate supporter is a better feminist than someone who opposes it. Don't let the mob of third-party trolls and MRAs confuse the issue. These social justice warriors are the ignorant Bible-bashers of the far-left, replacing insincere religious scorn with insincere social progressiveness scorn.

This post is way too long already, so I'll cut it off with this tl;dr: we don't want people to pander to us for the sake of autism or supporting the victim of the big bully gaming press. We want the ignorant dickheads to stop being ignorant, stop being dickheads, look at the meticulously recorded reasons for GamerGate with an open mind, and the come to their own fucking conclusion, no matter what that might be.

Also relevant, from the comments of that article: the author's explanation of what she was told about the meaning of "Gamers are dead" - although I'm fairly sure that the 'metaphor' excuse was backpedalling created way after the fact, and not the original intent of the hundred or so GAMERDEATH articles. If that actually was the original meaning of the headlines, then twelve or so different gaming publications have equally incompetent headline writers. Or one incompetent headline writer in the GameJournoPros collusion coven. Better call in the experts from Buzzfeed.

Ya, I saw that just now. But I read it as KoP just being a dumb shit and not verifying the data. It sounds like somebody trolled him rather hard. It still doesn't explain why Denton decided to erase his FB and denounce whoever it was that supposedly leaked it.

 

As per the article, KoP lied about his sources - not failing to verify, but caught straight up lie.

Stream with Hotwheels just ended. It seems he doesn't know if the Gawker paying people thing is real or not, where as before he thought it was. But he's pretty sure that KoP was lying about Totillo being the source of the leak. I guess we'll know if Stephan get's booted. But Hotwheels himself said he doesn't know if KoP was just being stupid and believed a troll or if it was something he did to boost his E fame.

That's just stupid. But proving them wrong only makes SJW's even more dangerous. Ignoring them is best. Attention-whores require attention, remove that and they deflate.

 

In this case I would argue that ignoring them hasn't seemed to help. in fact it seems to have made them worse.

It really is indicative of the culture in westernized nations nowadays. Whereas before, the general belief was life can be unfair, but do your best. Though previous generations had many flaws, I would say the defining flaw of the past and current generations lie in an inability to take responsibility for oneself.

Everyone plays the victim card to make them feel better about themselves. Is there discrimination in the world? Certainly. However blaming discrimination for your own failures (or in the case of actual discrimination dwelling on it and never moving past it), has lead to a culture of victims who are incapable of being productive citizens.

My opinion...suck it up and do your best. Life is unfair, but the world does not revolve around you. Another person can make you a victim for only a moment; but only you can make yourself a victim for your whole life. Take responsibility.
