I might watch the first but I'm not even touching the second, especially since Peter Jackson isn't directing. I mean I don't doubt it will be at least passable but it was a fucking miracle that Jackson didn't fuck up LoTR and I'm not willing to bet my money on another miracle. Especially since they had hundreds of pages of Tolkeins work for reference.

Don't get me wrong they'll have a lot of info for the second movie but I don't trust contemporary writers not to massage the universe to make it appeal to the wider ( or dumber) audience.

Although more of that Serkis (...?) guy can't be a bad thing.

Also: Uwe Boll retired right? I sure hope so.

Who will be the main character in the second movie? Again Bilbo or more of a Gandalf movie as he goes around and lends his wisdom to others? Or is it going to focus on another character who may or may not be made up for that purpose?

That would probably be around the time Aragorn was serving in Gondor under an assumed name (I forget which). He achieved some fame there at the time, and became a rival of Dethanor(sp).

    That's indeed good news.

I'm still wary about the two films, but I am glad Jackson will direct them.

    Eeehh...

I'm going to read the inevitable DLP thread upon release, before I even consider watching this movie.

This could use a little update.

It seems that "The Hobbit" likely wont be filmed in NZ this time around.
    Source and Source#2

Rather stupid move imo, it would have brought quite a nice sum to the country if it was filmed there, but no, the New Zealand Actors’ Equity had to try bite off more than it could chew.

Hopefully this wont delay the movie too much nor affect the quality.

Edit: I'm not actually at all opposed to Hobbit being 2 parts, hopefully they will use it to act out more of the scenes and generally add more content then a one part movie would allow. The book definitely has it's worth of content.

No. Peter Jackson made a threat - the NZ would loose too much if he really did act on his threat, but he won't. I've read somewhere else - can't bother to find the link, that essentially this threat was more virtual and made to speed up things.

As far as I know, there are already many things made in NZ for the Hobbit, and would cost too much to relocate.

I'm not sure how seriously to take the sources, as I'm not a regular follower of those, but I quote from the second source:
If true, it does make it sound like a final decision, although I wouldn't be too surprised if they're just pushing it this far to make it seem like they're really serious about it.

    Warner are still talking tough:
In typical media fashion the title is sensationalist garbage that's contradicted by the article itself. My guess is that they're still saber-rattling and hope to wiggle another 5% out of the government now the fearless leader has gotten himself involved.

I don't know if anyone is interested in The Hobbit production videos, but this one is definitely worth watching. Especially its ending. :)

Yeah, the ending made me laugh out loud.

From what I have seen so far I think we will get the same quality we got with the LotR movies.

As I pointed out in the trailer thread, it looks like it's a trailer for both films, despite being billed as "An Unexpected Journey". There's too many scenes of Gandalf doing his own thing and the presence of Galadriel at all, for it to be anything else.

Fuck, I can't wait for this shit. Perfect end-of-finals-week celebration, too.

Should probably watch in IMAX 3D as well.

Unless they've inserted original scenes into the Hobbit to lay groundwork for number 2. After all, Gandalf is off screen doing White Council stuff for much of The Hobbit.
