Chapter 6: Out of the Frying Pan and into the Fire
A workman type chapter. literarily we cover a massive distance, we go from Bilbo showing off the ring to a rockslide to wargs to Gandalf going nuclear to goblins and wargs returning fire with MAD to eagles saving the day.
And yet it doesn't run overlong, it just keeps a steady pace and keeps the focus on the characters. This is a masterclass in a chapter. Standouts to me: Goblin songs still are creepy but really fun to sing. The eagles refer to the dwarves as prisoners, and the dwarves are led to believe that things are going to get even worse with the eagles, but the meaning of Prisoner is explained as 'prisoners of the goblins'. however, since we know that Gandalf had already talked to the lord of eagles, it deflates a fair bit of the tension here.

Hi, question. When you come across songs in the books when you read to your child, how do you sing them? Do you come up with a melody or rhythm on the spot or is it more like a poem? When there isn’t one that appears in the movies, I usually just read them like poems, but you say goblin songs are fun to sing, so I’m curious!

For that song I made up a tune, but I'll borrow and tune that looks like it fits.
Reading to a less than one year old gives me a lot of leeway, and I take every inch of it.
