And yet you said that because Hobbit gave us a second example of Elf/Dwarf amiable relationship of any kind, it ruined Legolas/Gimli for you? Enough so to say that it took away from what Tolkien intended?

When a second example ruins things for you, that means you expected the first to be unique.

 

I agree with her being more than an Action Girl but she was also complex in that she stood against the orders of Legolas's father and leader of her people in the second and third films. She does her own thing. In that sense she kind of rubbed off on Legolas.

Legolas's father's reindeer was very awesome too.

 

I never said ruined, I said cheapened.

And I stand by that. When you only have two film series made, and the second involves a more advanced version of something that is explicitly rare in the first, it cheapens and takes away from the relationship depicted in the first considerably.
