Jaden's supposedly been training for a while now with Chan, Chan said something on the radio about how his own son can't be bothered to learn when he has to teach, but Jaden sucks it up like a sponge.

Am I the only one who hated the Karate Kid movies? I honestly cheered every time that kid got his ass kicked. And lets face it, that happened a lot.

Perhaps Jackie Chan is taking a leaf from Steve Martin, Dust off a sucessful but not to pricey to get the rights (father of the bride), and watch the money role in.

He will definitely be making money off this. Its the Karate Kid with Jackie Chan and Will Smith's son what more do you need to make money.

I hate so much right now I can't stand it. :\ I didn't like the Karate Kid movies so much, but still. Its the principle of the thing. Mr Miyagi is dead, figuratively and literally. Let him rest in peace, fags. >_>

The Karate Kid movies were shit. If I'd had the vocabulary for it at that age, "Daniel-san", "Wax on/wax off", and all that other nonsense would have been lumped under the collective blanket of faggotry.

That being said, Jaden's fucking smart. Love him or hate him, Will Smith has a knack for taking on blockbuster projects, and Jackie Chan is one of the kings of the martial arts genre. Since he already has some drama under his belt (Pursuit of Happyness), Jaden could become a very well-rounded and heavily courted actor if he plays his cards right.

I share Barney's point of view: The bully was the real Karate Kid.

I think I'll like this one better, tbh. That split is brutal.

I have no strong feelings about this one way or the other. Never cared for the original, so I don't care what they do with it now.

I do respect the capitalist nature of the project, though.

Miyagi was pretty cool, but the karate kid himself - Daniel-san or whatever - really got on my nerves, as I remember it. Stupid wimpy little shit.

So yeah, this could actually be pretty good. Jackie Chan is cool.

So I wonder if they save a lot of money filming in China.

I also wonder If China is going to starting pitching itself to Hollywood.

It isn't that tough a sell, Get one Hollywood star, We'll provide a "chinese" Co-star, and 1 billion ticket and dvd sales.

@Boo: you weren't expecting a real plot, were you?

    It looks moderately entertaining.

At least Miyagi got some manual labor and chores out of the deal. In all honesty, I'll probably end up seeing it with friends; if anything else I get some comedic laughs out of the deal and I've spent 5 bucks on worse movies. Also, Joe Espisito > Fort Minor.

It looks better than the original at any rate, wont see it at the cinema, but may mooch it off friends when it comes out on DVD.
