I'm not sure I want to even bother with this show anymore. You just know they'll fuck up and do something stupid.

The art looks amazing at least.

The season looks promising, I must say, but then again...

I was part of the fan faction that thought the ATLA finale was a bit of a cop-out. Aang, in the end, wasn't made to choose between the greater good and his own ideals.

LOK's season one was similarly disappointing - after this massive build-up, Amon turned out to be a dud. There was no resolution to the conflict between benders and non-benders, no need for Korra to handle the real, difficult issues of inequality and privilege.

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE: Grey DeLisle, who voiced Azula and the Vaatu, will be back to voice a non-firebender "bad girl". Here's hoping to some form of AZULA reincarnated

First ep was a bit of a snoozefest. The dialogue had that same unnatural pacing that's plagued the last two seasons.

That said, the second and third eps were totally different animals. They were actually reminiscent of old Avatar. Really brought back the humor and wry silliness layered into the plot that made ATLA such a good show. NEET guy made me burst out laughing.

New char Kai is great. He is what Mako should have been. And these new villains... these villains are awesome. Like legit awesome. I mean straight-up, grade A, L99 BAMFS. That was Azula voicing Sparky Sparky Boom Girl right?

I'm really looking forward to this season... here's hoping they don't kill it with stupidity.

Fuck Kai. I feel confident in saying that.

New villains are cool... except I can't take the Earth Queen seriously.

Good to see Zuko back in action.

    That's about it really.

Those darn Dai Li. It's a wonder they weren't disbanded.

I like Kai simply on the principle that he's a thieving airbender. Same with that antag (and his minions - lava shuriken/water hands, whoa).

Here's hoping Korra goes all Kyoshi on the Earth Queen.

And it was nice to see Korra and Asami just being cool with each other. I sorta think it might have been good if Asami gotten some airbending instead of/as well as Bumi too.

Moar Edit: I'm hearing a theory that Korra has a history with these criminals and may have been why she was put in the compound.

Wasn't even aware it was out already. Made my day.

Glad that at least for now, the love triangle is over. Was really dragging down the show. Really hope we'll see Varrick again. Kai is okay.

Predicting now: The new-airbender antagonist and Sparky Sparky Boom Girl are actually Mako and Bolin's parents.

EDIT: I think Asami gets bending at some point, if the trailer was anything to go by. Don't think it was airbending though.

So, those three episodes were quite good, actually. Agree that it brought back some of the feeling of the old Avatar.

The villains are really cool so far, and I like their various skillsets. The lava star out of a few rocks seemed stupid, ridiculously cool, but stupid nonetheless. However, their prisons, while cool to break out of, made me wonder why they weren't just killed, no sense to build and maintain such elaborate constructs in such difficult geographical places for seemingly little reason but what the hell, I am just glad that there are cool villains for now. Just getting a bit sick of the "we have to kill the Avatar" plotline that every villain in the show followed to some degree. They have been in prison for what, 14 years or so, right? When Korra was 2? So, unlikely that it is something personal but rather either has something to do with Aang, or the Avatar being in the way of some plot to destroy balance or something.

It made the White Lotus seem incredibly incompetent, though.

Other good stuff, it was great to see Zuko again, his conversation with the twins was funny. I am so happy the whole love triangle shit was cut and I hope it remains gone, Asami and Korra bonding was great to see and I hope those two form a solid duo/OTP from now on, with Mako and Bolin being busy with their family backstory, which finally made those two somewhat interesting and likeable again. I mean, I still want Mako to die but I'll take the family stuff for now.

Airbending family was great as usual, loved the "The maggots will bow to me" part, and the whole airbending subplot is something I wanted to see for quite some time. Thought this was what "bringing balance" was supposed to lead to in the first place. But yeah, the spirit stuff and airbending is cool. Loved the humour and seriousness of this situation where, of course, not everyone is going to be as psyched as Tenzin and Korra and are unwilling to leave their lives behind to live the life of an Airbender, which, lets be honest, not many can embrace unless they were raised into it. Loved the scene where Tenzin sold out and used airbending in such a useless way.

I am with Hash, fuck Kai. Thieving airbender is interesting but not Kai. Dunno, he was grating so far and I am not really looking forward for the Jinora and Kai romantic subplot. He is young and all, and I suppose that should cut him some slack but I'm a bit sick of this archetype and the stupidity those characters receive. Going stealing when you are taken in by the fucking Avatar is just retarded beyond measure and as far as I am concerning, he deserves his fate with the Dai Lee.

Good to see those guys again, btw, the metalbending cops were just meh, but the Dai Lee one takes seriously.

Glad to see Korra catching up to the fact that she always starts out on the wrong side in a conflict.

So yeah, so far, pretty solid first three episodes. Hope this remains that way.

Also seeing how often Korra has to jump through hoops with dumb leaders and officials, I really want to see a story where she goes "fuck it" and becomes a tyrant.

Just food for thought as I watch Nostalgia Critic discuss Season 3 Premiere:

Anyone else think if they significantly trimmed down Season 2 to the important particulars and even out the characterization swings, it could have been an awesome made-for-tv movie to bridge Season 1 & Season 3?

I am super excited for the possibility of old lady Toph appearing later in the season, she was definitely my favourite character of the original series.

I'm loving the villains this season too, they haven't been given a ton of depth or backstory yet, but what's really nice to see is how they genuinely like each other and act like friends. They're not just evil assholes who hang out because they're all villains, they feel like a real group.

There are still things that I really don't like about this new Avatar series. Stuff like Toph "Let's Break Some Rules" Bei Fong founding a police unit and Katara standing on the sides, pretty much doing nothing. At 15 she was a master water bender fit to take on the best of the world and we know people get stronger the older they are, so, I kinda wish we were to see Katara doing something. Like, I have a hard time believing that the Katara who always wanted to help people would just sit around on the South Pole instead of helping against the big issues.

By the way, Zuko and co kinda deserved their loss for not taking Katara along to fight at the place where her power would be the greatest. It is also galling that we only barely hear about what it was that Sokka did, being mostly ignored.

I do have hope seeing Toph again, maybe her and Katara appearing together somewhere. Seriously though, doesn't it seem weird for you guys that Toph of all people created a police unit? Trying to keep order and have people obey rules really seems as unlike Toph as it can get. I can't really think of a job less suited to her personality than this. It would be like Aang becoming a butcher. Metal bending schools, yeah, I can see that. Her wandering the world, yeah, that's true to her as well. Raising her family with too much freedom for her daughters, having multiple husbands, all stuff that is Toph. But police work?

New metal city seems okay, but I am not looking forward to another Bolin romance, what's with this show forcibly creating instant pairings whenever a new character is introduced? At least give it a few episodes. It feels just as rushed as it was with Mako in the first season, where they got through an entire relationship, break up and new relationship within a few episodes.

Two new episodes were okay, still going rather strong.

The Avatar writers have never been able to write a successful romantic relationship IMO. It's telling that the biggest ships supported in the fandom are not ones of their own making and come off better than their own attempts. Mako/Korra & Mako/Asami or Asami/Korra?

I'm guilty of forgetting about her myself. But Katara's down in the Southen Water Tribe so Zuko would have had to have taken a detour down there before flying on over to the Northern Water Tribe where Combustion Girl's prison is. Understable that he'd give it a miss when he's gotta move hella fast.

It would be nice to see her in action though, even if she seems to be retired retired.

I think of it as her choosing a job where she and her metalbenders can kick ass on a daily basis, with the bonus of helping out Team Avatar with Republic City and one-upping the "worst city ever" by showing them what a real police force should be like.

The trouble with that is that due to the whole spirit portals left open thing, it would have taken Zuko something like 1 minute to travel from the north pole to the south pole.

Point. But that could still be a detour that he might not be able to afford, even if it's not as bad as it would have been.

He got Korra's dad so he was already in the south pole.

However, she's old. I'm surprised Zuko's still running around. Maybe she has arthritis or something. Or maybe she and Zuko have had a spat. Plenty of excuses the writers can/should use.
