I don't mean to sound like a bastard... but it's pretty obvious that this isn't how Hagrid normally acts. We all know he isn't really a great actor so I doubt he could pull this off.

Third where the hell would he get those magical objects seriously?

The surprise task is an intriguing idea but I don't think Dumbledore would go for making Hagrid look like such a crazed loon in front of the other schools.

I'm stil going to go with imperious, or an equivalent mind controlling substance, because its just a case of Occams razor.

Its the easiest and most logical explanation.

The fact that Hagrid had them on him means that it would be someone who already knew about the task ahead of time... probably someone from the ministry or someone who bribes information from theminister all the time.

to make this Short... Its Narcissa.

Whatever happens, happens and I'd much rather wait and see than speculate and possibly get it right.

I'm more interested in the debate of why Hagrid did what he did. I'd have to cast my lot with the Imperious curse. Although he is half-giant I doubt it would give him that much resistance from it. But for arguments sake, let's say he can throw off weak casters. There are still plenty of people in Hogwarts who could/would be powerful enough to manage the Imperious on a gullible half-giant.

His actions are OOC for him and he cares enough about Harry to risk purposely endangering him. Also with the line "Let my people go" it is more likely to distract any investigation of mind control since it would lead people into petitioning for his resignation (think Lupin in Third Year).

Six of us... Six Champs. So i dont really think any Aurors are on the inside.

    But then again..
I take that as the Advisors are near the chairs. But its not like the Hat can get up and walk away to get a better view.

Pull the Sword out of the Hat. If the sword can kill the King of Serpents it can kill a Dementor. Or at least keep it at bay till the barrier comes down.

If the advisors are in the trap they should still have their wands. But most wizards cant even cast a Patronus Charm. Hj takes wand and saves the day.

Why would Hagrid put them in the cages. What was the point of them being escorted by a Auror squad if the school gamekeeper is going to do everything.
    -Set up the cages
-Lock up the Dementors(Aurors should be doing that. Peace of mind that they are locked in)
    -Take the wands

Also no words of encouragement for Harry when he walks by.

Alot of things dont add up with the whole Hagrid 'Giant Rights' thing.

Yeah, as a general rule, if you chop someone's head off, he dies. I wonder if wizards ever tried such, eh, barbaric methods to fight them?

I suspect that, generally, anyone who gets that close to a dementor doesn't actually talk about it afterwards. The dementor's area of effect is upwards of six feet. It's like sword fighting a golem made of white-hot steel: arm's length is way too close.

And they can't even see them, so that could be a problem

They can see Dementors, but react the same way as wizards and muggles. Animagii and normal animals and/or magical animals could have a chance...
they react not as storng, like Sirius in his dog form

I thought Squibs couldn't see them...? It's been debated/sorted out somewhere, but it was based on the fact that Mrs. Figg seemed like she was bullshitting during the OotP court case.

ANYWAYS, here's a theory: wait till the damn chapter comes out, then we'll figure out what the hell's up with Hagrid, hmm?

(I still think Banner's polyjuice idea is the most legit - fuck what canon says).

Mrs Figg said that Squibs can see Dementors her description just wasn't very...convincing at first until she described her feelings and the cold.
And I bet Filch could see them, too. Squibs can do many things like any normal wizard, but doing magic themselves...

I really hope jbern updates soon, I bet we are all going to find it very interesting who was right (IF someone guessed right) and what consequence there will be.

A muggle can describe 'the cold' too. Your argument fails.

Yes, but I doubt that she would lie before the whole wizardgamot when it can be proven by just asking another Squib (like Filch, because he HAD contact with Dementors for sure in Harry's third year) that it isn't true. She wouldn't say such a blatant lie, it would be more harm than help.

Hah, sweet innocence. The squibs would be complexing about thier magical inability. So, in pride, they would deny anything suggesting they are inferior.

    "Say, you're a Squib, yeah?"
    "So?" he said forcefully.
"So, can you or can you not see Dementors?"
"Of course I can!" he scoffed.

After which he would proceed to claim that he can perform some minor everyday-use spells. That's reality. And according to canon, people would buy that bullshit, if you remember Lockheart. Just think that wizards are children; a bit stupid, too rash, naïve, and lacking common sense.

    Edit: personally, I prefer Witenagemot.

I didn't say that, it's just really stupid and dangerous to tell a lie that can be proven to be a lie with little to no effort.

You're describing the average muggle there. Or maybe yourself, pick one.

Actually JK later confirms that she couldn't... This was before she finished HBP so at the time I was willing to care what she had to say. I still consider it cannon.
