I’ve gone from “this looks good but I worry about pacing and lore”.

Each trailer as chipped away at those worries. Also the support of most online Tolkien scholars.

Apparently a couple of the writers from the show are Corey Olsen listeners and used his SilmFilm and podcast stuff as inspiration.

This is very good news. Amazon should really just hire him as a lore consultant at this point.

Mostly agreed, but then he wouldn’t be able to review and speculate on it.

    True. And that would suck.

He apparently is going to have a new higher budget analysis show (i.e. not a webcam) once the episodes start airing. With guests and such. Should be fun.

So they showed an actual clip on Colbert. Not a long clip but it contains some actual dialogue.

    Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/LOTR_on_Prime/comments/wfs14c/a_new_clip_of_rings_of_power_released_during/

They have definitely fully committed to the Tolkien tone in the characters' speech. A risky move to be honest.

In the wrong hands, that kind of dialogue could easily backfire and take on a tone of parody/pastiche, feeling more like people larping than real conversation, to the point of pantomime/camp.

However, I think they might just manage to pull it off, based on the clip. Morfydd Clark really commits to the part and the production value of everything else helps sell it. It helps that I think the world is now ready for more mythic, stylised fantasy (see The Northman, The Green Knight) compared to where we were, say, 10 years ago.

    Cautiously optimistic.

That snippet is super on point in terms of mode and word usage. Reading the transcript, I would not be able to distinguish it from something Tolkien himself wrote. Big lol at all the youtubers claiming the show would be CW levels of modern dialogue.

    My hype continues to climb.

Edit: I am also joining Taure in his simpery campaign for Morfydd Clark. She is going to be a megastar.

Edit2: Holy shit the main lotr sub is actually praising it too. Overwhelmingly so.

All the city shots we've seen so far in Numenor have been one sprawling vista. Confirmed to be Armenelos. The big argonathy guy is "behind" the camera here.

P.s. that statue in the first picture is 100% holding Jackson's Narsil.

Gorgeous scenery. I hope the attention to detail there is indicative of how they're approaching everything else. If it is, then I'm hyped.

The amount of detail they've squeezed into this city is quite mind-boggling: the lived-in dirt and grime on all the walls, the edain discovering Numenor mural, the adunaic graffiti, the elven arches surrounding the white tree, what looks to be some sort of mechanical canal system to go up the waterfalls, the court of Elros nestled away amongst the housing, the Minas Tirith callback with the ship prow balcony on the new palace.

I'm really just kinda blown away. It's not quite as fantastically grand as my headcanon imagined, but honestly I think this more realistic Eastern Roman Empire flavored take is actually better.

Also, F for this poor horse.

Ugh. Why couldn't wheel of time have been half as pretty?

Still, I'm fully on the hype train. This is gonna be amazing. Ready to enter middle earth again.

Maybe they'll throw more effort and money at WoT next season if RoP performs as they are expecting it to.

This is the mighty elven skill of making armor. so thin that it looks like fabric. It's almost magic.

Bruh. It's a painted doublet / gambeson that you tie armor on. How you think those scale shoulderguards and bracers stay on? Glue?

You don't wear scale or plate mail against your skin.

There is another pic of the Numenoreans and miriel where you can clearly see they are all wearing doublets that match their armor.

Uhhh not sure what you mean? I posted the new drops as they came out today; it wasn't in response to your fabric/leather under armor nitpick (which again I find patently ridiculous from just a historical perspective, as painted and dyed doublets have been a thing since the 1300s).

Then let me be crystal clear.

When you say you don't know what I mean. I don't believe you for a second.

My little picture could have been acknowledged as a small nitpick, a meme, a production error, or something else completely trivial.

But you instantly wished to show that any criticism in the production is unfounded. No matter how trivial it may come a cross.

And as I have read through this thread - you seem very keen to portray all negative feedback in a negative light.

Reservations and criticism, do not equal hope for this show to fail.

But what's "bad" about the picture you posted? The fact that you can't tell the undershirt apart from the armor plates on top of it? Does the look of the shirt bother you? Is that the kind of detail that really matters to you? You plan on examining particular frames for the quality of costume details? Is this really something worth bringing up? Is it really?
