So this is smut with plot. I'm reccing it b/c the Restricted Section needs some love. I know DLP has matured, but let's not pretend we're less horny than we were ten years ago.

The premise is that there's an exclusive sex club within Gryffindor. It's a silly premise, but I think this story pulls it off. Both the porn and the plot are surprisingly good, and the porn is clearly not written by a 14-year-old virgin. The POV alternates between Harry and Hermione, but the focus is on Harry. There's actually good characterization, and even the secondary characters (of which there are many) behave like realistic human beings.

I don't want to spoil too much, but the plot basically follows canon until after the second task. Then it brings in changes involving Fleur, a necromancer, Sirius, and Narcissa Malfoy. The story is very much driven by the need to defeat Voldemort, all the sex aside. Years 4-7 basically get condensed into two years, but it doesn't follow canon, especially after the third task. Umbridge doesn't even appear. There aren't any cliches: no manipulative Dumbledore, harems, goblins, house politics, bashing, etc., although Ron is kind of a dick for the first part of the story. Hermione plays a major role, which might automatically piss off a few people. She's got a peculiar kink.

The smut is good, sometimes great. Harry has some interesting encounters outside of Gryffindor (and outside of Hogwarts). Tracey and Daphne show up. It's not fluffy, but the author clearly tries to make things psychologically realistic. (I thought he was female until he declared that he was male). It occasionally reads like he is trying to please particular fetishes with each chapter, but that's not a bad thing. There isn't any dark, depraved shit that teenagers wouldn't engage in. The smut is pretty light-hearted and fun throughout.

Fair warning: there's some slash (a little male and more female), but it's not super common. 90% of the encounters are het, and Harry is straight except for one or two encounters where he's basically just indulging his friends.

What really sells this story for me is the characterization, plot, and humor. You could skip all the porn and it would still be a decent story, and the porn is always integral to the plot. The story is aware of its absurd premise, and though it's not a comedy, there's a lot of witty dialogue and a few moments that will make you laugh out loud. You truly can't see them coming. (Edit: the Harry and Sirius interactions are hilarious, and straight out of nonjon).

As a Harry Potter story, I'd give it 4/5 for quality of writing and sheer entertainment value. After fourth year, you really can't predict what's coming.

As a smut story, I'd give it 5/5. I'm not sure how the smut/plot combo could be done better, and it kicks the shit out of almost everything else in the Restricted Section.

 

When you say Ron is a dick, is it to the level of Ron-bashing?

 

Depends on your definition of bashing. IIRC, Ron's estrangement from Harry is longer than canon, and there's not much of an explanation for it except that he's jealous. They make up eventually, but he's never an essential part of the trio again. I got the impression that he was mostly written out of the story without resorting to the love potion/Weasley conspiracy cliches. One of the subplots is Harry and Hermione conspiring to get him a girlfriend, and it's played for laughs. If he's your favorite character, you might not like the story. The twins and Ginny have big roles.

 

Well, as long as their estrangement is believable, I'll probably give the story a go. It's not everyday a smut story is rated so high.

 

I've already read most of this, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a pretty debauched, well written, long smut fic. Just expect ooc characters and don't read it all at once. It should definitely go into the restricted section imo. 5/5.

 

The smut is well written and the characters' voices read as believable (if subject to porn logic).

The only problem with the fic is that it needs to be consumed in small doses because otherwise it does get quite repetitive. While the author does occasionally introduce new characters into the "roster", they do so fairly sparingly, and there's only so many times you can read about Harry railing Hermione before you lose interest.

 

I read some of this a while back. Would have liked it a lot more if Hermione had been left out of things. But that's just my own preferences speaking and not some kind of criticism of the work. It's decent for what it is.

 

Yeah, I too have already read this, and it is really good in its own genre. The problem is that it is fairly episodic. Some words in, and you already have a good sense what the next four or five scenes would look like, like a CSI show, where you always know there's a crime - then collecting evidence -then lab work - and the witness (that might turn to be a killer.

Because of that, it's very easy to skim this- and it's very easy to get to the parts you want to read (whatever those are, heh). All in all, solid 4/5, I think. It's entertaining, but that too does get old sometimes, so really it's either skipping smut or skipping a few scenes after it. I don't know, something about it is really skimmable.

But even if I would be criticizing this outside of smut it is still decent 3.5/5. I'll just put it as 4/5 and be done with it.

 

A really good piece of smut with plot. The charathers are well developep, with is rare in smut fics and the sex is fun.

 

I can only agree with the others here, it is really a well written piece of smut. Sure it can be a bit episodic but that is a price I am gladly willing to pay if it means having a story that understands that a person can have a sexual fetish without becoming fully defined by it or largely keeps to the theme of people participating in sexual activities not because they are depraved deviants incapable of functioning in normal society or mind-controlled slaves but because it is fun.
