What I think @Viewtiful meant is that there's no reason why Mando's face in particular should have been able to unlock the console. There's no point in doing a facial scan if anybody's face passes the scan. It's like having a password field that accepts any entry as long as it's not blank. It would have been more secure to have someone enter their "designation/TK number" or whatever it is that the officer asked him for.

In addition, Mayfeld's excuse is immediately thrown out the window when he walks up to the officer he was trying to avoid and proceeds to talk to him about the battle they both fought in.

Although the facial scan thing really jumped out at me as ridiculous, it's just the cherry on top of a mediocre transition episode. It pretty much cancelled out the momentum from the previous episode's cliffhanger.

I feel like there should have been a better way for them to slot in Bill Burr's character earlier on in the season and still check off whatever plot point they needed for Mando to track down the Moff's ship.

Pretty much what @Jack-O said. I'm also more than a little annoyed that they acknowledged the existence of that horrendously stupid "Operation Cinder" plotline from Battlefront 2. Gods, I hated that shit; moustache-twirling evil for it's own sake, without an ounce of logic behind it. They could have had Mayfeld's Heel Realization be literally any made up Imperial atrocity they wanted, so why did they have go with the most contrived, nonsensical bullshit Disney's come up with, outside of the sequel movies themselves?

Because Disney threw away most of the lore.

Not the point. They could have simply made something new up. There was no need for it to be some epic, mass atrocity. It could have been as simple as his platoon being ordered to massacre a few civilians on some nameless planet, then being turned on and executed when they refused. Or literally anything else they could think of. But instead they wanted to do a tie-in to one of the most idiotic parts of Disney canon.

The official Palpy logic is: The Empire allowed the Emperor to die, thus the Empire in its current state is weak and cannot be allowed to continue. It must be wiped away and rebuilt from the ground up.

And I dunno, I think that's very much in Palps' wheelhouse of crazy. Probably could have been better executed though. If it had played out as "if thee be loyal, journey to the uncharted regions and scourge all that remains behind", I think Op Cinder would make quite a bit more sense.

Instead, Palps just handpicked a few imps to get the secret order to join him, and imploded everyone else. I suppose the argument for proceeding this way is secrecy?

You're probably right about the Emperor's internal rationale, but honestly that just makes me hate it more.

We're talking about a guy who was so politically and socially astute that he infiltrated the demilitarized galactic government, took it over as chief executive, and subverted it into a militant dictatorship. All under the collective noses of an entire ancient order of supernatural spiritually attuned warrior-diplomats sworn to stamp out and destroy people like Palpatine. And people thanked him for it.

To see a brilliant mastermind villain like that reduced to a cartoonish caricature of mindless evil is infuriating.

I will say that Operation Cinder managed to be better than, "PaLpAtInE sAw ThE yUuZhAn VoNg CoMInG" that fucking Legends gave us.

I swear to god... People are going to reread the new jedi order series with the Vong in the years to come and fucking laugh at it like they should. Christ there are more hot fucking garbage legends books than good ones. Books that make the sequel trilogy look like Oscar winners. Take that from someone who has read most of them. The only value 99% of them have is so you have a good read on Jacen and Jaina Solo so you can read the Legacy of the Force series and enjoy it. And even then it's a rough journey prose wise.

Meh. I'd argue the complete opposite. Most of the legends was trash tier fanfiction, but it was still decent lore-building and I always liked the Palpatine saw the Vong coming angle.

The sequels belong in the same tier as the trashy legends stories. The majority of legends was solidly better and the best of legends is top tier fiction regardless of genre.

With you on that take. The Mandalorian remains peak Star Wars.

I really don’t have much to say because I don’t want to spoil anything- so how about that Post-Credits scene?

It was like I was 8 years old watching Return for the 1st time in 1996 after my dad bought the VHS boxset.

I'm absolutely fucking hype and I really hope they don't try to artificial scarcity it and only run one show at a time next December. I'd be eminently salty.

That was amazing. Haven't felt this way about Star Wars in a long time.

Legit chills akin to the Vader Scene in Rogue one when -that- happened.

That. Was. Awesome. Also something else:

Also reminds you like dudes like Luke, Obi-Wan, and Anakin operate at a different level. The Mando crew took planning and a bunch of time to board the ship. Luke casually walked all the way to the bridge lol

I think...along with this...it shows how the Jedi/Force-Users are still the beating heart of star wars. Don't get me wrong. I'm loving the space western. I'm looking forward to other stories about non-force users.

But the core of the story and star wars will always be those who use the Force. They just operate, as you say, on a different level.

So...I'm hopeful the Ahsoka show and some others might give us more Jedi (old republic plz) vs. Sith Storylines eventually.

I’ll just assume those last scenes are super great if you’re actually into Star Wars. He revealed his face and I was like; I /think/ that’s Luke Skywalker? That doesn’t really mean anything to me though. Just some dude who’s face I think I’ve seen before. Does this tie into existing lore in some interesting way? R2 getting excited when meeting Grogu was cute though :)

Luke was the protagonist of the first trilogy of movies and considered the strongest Jedi ever basically. I guess a decent comparison is if there was a post Hogwarts HP movie and Harry showed up to save the day

On Casting and a show I now desperately want

Hamill did the voice acting and was involved, but it was Max Lloyd-Jones as the Body.

Also, we need Sebastian Stan as a Luke and a series following Luke's efforts to restore the Jedi Order. Ignore the sequels and just give us back the best bits of the EU.
