If I'm not mistaken, these are the same guys that did the song that plays during the credits for Dead Space 2. I enjoyed that track a lot, though don't recall what the name was.

Seventh album from Ireland's premier metal five-piece, one of my favorite bands of all time. They boast possibly the finest vocalist in all of metal, Alan Averill. Every single syllable he belts out sounds like a proclamation, filled to the brim with emotion and passion.

This, combined with their previous two albums, 'The Gathering Wilderness' and 'To the Nameless Dead' create one of the finest trilogy of consecutive albums a band has ever released. Every one of the three albums, this included, can not be recommended high enough.

I hate myself for never having listened to Primordial before. Love it. Thanks for the rec!

And yeah, the Russian Circles song from Dead Space 2 was Fathom I think.

I suppose I'll also throw out another rec, Battlelore, a band whose lyrics focus solely on Middle-Earth. Definitely not a band for everyone, but I find their music addicting.

Not many good quality videos on youtube so I might have to upload my own, but for now:

I was unaware Primordial had a new album out, and now I'm presently surprised. Those two song you linked were excellent.

Here's another (ambient) black metal band similar to Be'lakor and Wodensthrone. They're called Askival. They have one demo and one full album out, called Eternity. Apparently the project has been abandoned, which is a shame :/

I just got my hands on the new Arch Enemy album Khaos Legions. I made a thread about it a few weeks back, but I kind of forgot about the album until today. It was officially released 5 days ago, and I'm sort of ashamed that I forgot about my favorite band :/

Anyways, I think I will do a review of each song as I listen to them, and then I'll probably listen to the album a few more times to really feel the songs.

    1. "Khaos Overture" (Instrumental) 1:31
    2. "Yesterday is Dead and Gone" 4:22
    3. "Bloodstained Cross" 4:49
    4. "Under Black Flags We March" 4:41
    5. "No Gods, No Masters" 4:14
    6. "City of the Dead" 4:31
    7. "Through the Eyes of a Raven" 5:09
    8. "Cruelty Without Beauty" 4:59
    9. "We Are a Godless Entity" (Instrumental) 1:34
    10. "Cult of Chaos" 5:11
    11. "Thorns in My Flesh" 4:55
    12. "Turn to Dust" (Instrumental) 0:39
    13. "Vengeance is Mine" 4:09
    14. "Secrets" 4:05
    15. "The Zoo" (Scorpions cover) 4:42
    16. "Snow Bound" (Acoustic version) 1:41

    1) Khaos Overture - Pretty cool intro.

    2) Yesterday is Gone - This song has been leaked for awhile, but I kind of like the main riff even if it doesn't song like normal Arch Enemy. I didn't like the first solo, but I did like the slow guitar.

    3) Bloodstained Cross - Intense intro, typical blazing guitar followed by a loud death scream. Intense, but very melodic song over all. I like the constant switch between slow and fast riffs. I think it could have retained more of its intensity at the end of the song, but it was still nice.

    4) Under Black Flags We March - Has a nice heavy chord sequence, but the song is fairly plain. Has a very pleasant sounding solo though.

    5) No Gods, No Masters - Slow, melodic song, but I like it well enough. Riff is catchy.

    6) City of the Dead - Started off with a blazing into solo which caught me off guard from the slow ending of the previous song. The song reminded me of the Anthems of Rebellion album, which is good. Has several mini solos throughout, and a final Eruption-esque type solo at the end. I like this song a lot, even if it isn't particularly heavy.

    7) Through the Eyes of a Raven - Solid song. Pretty heavy. Nice solo as well. Quite like.

    8) Cruelty Without Beauty - Heavy song with some great blast beats.

    9) We Are a Godless Entity - boring instrumental

    10) Cult of Chaos - Fast paced song, I like. Does get slower in the middle though, but gets heavier briefly.

    11) Thorns in My Flesh - Intense song, sort of like the previous. Has some nice solos too.

    12) Turn to Dust - nothing much to say about this. Leads up to the next song sort of

    13) Vengeance is Mine - I like the intro, but I think the drums could have been faster. I was digging the reverb on the guitar though. Great song.

    14) Secrets - Nice song. Quite melodic, almost neo-classical.

    15) The Zoo - Never heard the original song, but I don't think this cover was anything special. Just a metalfied version I guess.

    16) Snow Bound - I liked the original better

Final thoughts: I liked the album. Its distinctly has the Arch Enemy style. I would rank it above Tyrants and Stigmata, which are at the very bottom of my list, but they are still good. I don't like how there are 4 instrumentals though. They are short, and kind of pointless, except for the first one. If they were going to include instrumentals, I wish they would include something like Orion. I do wish there were more intense songs. Tyrants had quite a few intense songs, but also a few bombs, and this album didn't have any songs I outright hated. so 8/10 from me.

Just picked up the new In Flames album. Their old stuff is really good, their new stuff not so much. So, I listened to in hope that it would somehow be decent.

First of, I think Anders Friden is a terrible singer now. It sounds too emo. Come Clarity was their last decent album, and I would only give it a 3/5. This is also the first album without founder/guitarist Jesper Stromblad.

    1. "Sounds of a Playground Fading" 4:44 - decent song. Slow parts were unnecessary. Guitar was pretty good.
    2. "Deliver Us" 3:31 - Singing was god awful. Guitar was alright.
    3. "All for Me" 4:31 - I liked the guitar work. Again, hate the singing.
    4. "The Puzzle" 4:34
    5. "Fear is the Weakness" 4:07 - Started off good. Alright song.
    6. "Where the Dead Ships Dwell" 4:27
    7. "The Attic" 3:18
    8. "Darker Times" 3:25
    9. "Ropes" 3:42
    10. "Enter Tragedy" 3:59
    11. "Jester’s Door" 2:38
    12. "A New Dawn" 5:52
    13. "Liberation" 5:10

I kind of got bored of the CD so I didn't write individual reviews, my bad. It was boring. Half the tracks can't even be considered metal. I'd give it 4/10, because I may have missed a good track. They've sold out, and their's no coming back for this band. Their trying to be too radio friendly, and in doing so, they've sold 2.5 million albums and have had a few #1 hits, but they're old music just blows their new stuff out of the water. I can't even consider them melodic death metal anymore, its more like modern rock.

    Disappointed.

New Unearth Album came out a few days ago, called 'Darkness in the Light'. I don't typically listen to 'Metalcore' as the vocals tend to be more raw (hardcore) screaming rather than growling, but Unearth is a great band that does it proper. Their previous album, 'III: In The Eyes of Fire' is one of the greatest metal albums ever, one of the rare one without a single bad song on it. The only other albums I could say that about is Twilight of the Thunder God, and The Fall of Ideals. Hell, even Master of Puppets has Damage Inc and The Song that Should Not Be. I'm just saying that the new album has a lot to live up to.

    1. "Watch It Burn" 4:06
    2. "Ruination Of The Lost" 3:35
    3. "Shadows In The Light" 3:45
    4. "Eyes Of Black" 3:53
    5. "Last Wish" 3:06
    6. "Arise The War Cry" 3:55
    7. "Equinox" 2:58
    8. "Coming Of The Dark" 3:07
    9. "The Fallen" 3:35
    10. "Overcome" 3:11
    11. "Disillusion" 3:37

1: Great riffs, great melody, great song. Good album opener.
2: Loved it, great explosive beats intermingled with great technical guitar work and melodic chords. Great solo
3: Good, but nothing overly remarkable. Emo clean vocals make me sad.
4: Good, but nothing overly remarkable.
5: Great song, love the guitar + bursty vocals.
6: Great guitar work again, great intro. Intense song with a great solo.
    7: Slow song, almost ambient-esque
8: Good song with a great solo.
9: The overtuned guitarwork was kind of neat, but otherwise not much separating it from other songs. As with all their songs, the solo is pretty nice sounding.
10: Nice sounding song. Very catchy.
11: Spine tingling beautiful guitar work.

Overall, I would say this album is 9/10. It's very good. There wasn't a song I didn't really like, but they weren't all super catchy like the albums mentioned above. Still, better than I would have thought it would be.

Thought I'd share some of the stuff I've been involved with lately.

    First up:

    The Seer

    Progressive Death Metal

All four of the guys are friends of mine, doing a live recording and video for them at the moment.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6JKShx_uSo

Live the other night at a 10 band metal festival that I did the sound and lighting for.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=br0LdTA50bI

All five tracks from their debut E.P. are up there. Plus on iTunes and soon to be pretty much every other online distro soon enough.

Used to listen to almost purely metal, though these days I seem to be listening to mainly trance and Jap anime music. =P

But if you haven't heard of an Aussie band called Ne Obliviscaris, you better start. They're an amazing and unique Progressive Black Metal band. They take your typical aggressive black metal sound and somehow turn it into this uplifting, and at times even relaxing sound. The use of some beautiful violin playing just makes it even more unique.

Unfortunately do some setbacks (like their guitarist leaving, then their knew guitarist being deported) they have only released a single demo EP, though have a larger repertoire for their live performances.

Tapestry of the Starless Abstract - Starts really aggressive, and then moves into the more typical NeO sound. I'd highly recommend listening to it from start to end before making your judgement. I think the dual solo between the violin and the guitar at 8:30 is one of the coolest solos I've ever heard.

Forgot Not - Is usually more easy to get into. The whole song is a build up from a really light acoustic guitar/violin piece to an aggressive black metal piece.

As Icicles Fall - probably not as good as the other two, but still pretty awesome.

If you are a fan of Opeth's first two albums (Orchid and Morningrise), or Agalloch's stuff you'll *love* this.

This is great! There's actually a Metal Thread on DLP! I knew I joined for a reason other than HP and Dresden fanfiction!

Alright, well since we all seem to be throwing in our favorite bands and whatnot, I'll post what's been tickling my fancy lately.

First off, a little bit of Technical Melodic Death Metal: Arsis

Second , some Melodic Death Metal: Mors Principium Est

Third, a sprinkle of Symphonic Death Metal: Eternal Tears of Sorrow
(I was going throught an ":(" phase a few months ago.)

And finally, a touch of comic relief.

---------- Post automerged at 06:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:20 PM ----------

    I almost forgot: more comedy.

I actually linked a very similar video in both IRC and G+

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7zRA2YBzyA

I've been perfecting my own metal version of Hedwig's Theme all week, and I may post it here when I get a good enough recording.

Midvinter - At the Sight of the Apocalypse Dragon

    1. Dodfodd 8:51
    2. All Things to End Are Made 9:02
    3. Moonbound 8:16
    4. Hope Rides on Devil Wings 8:49
    5. Dreamslave 8:38
    6. Nocticula in Aeternum / Of Night Primeval 8:40
    7. Ett Liv Fornekat 8:02
    8. De Vises Hymn 3:17

The sole release from Midvinter is a melodic Black Metal masterpiece. Though relatively obscure, their mix of aggressive, pounding riffs balanced between cold tremelo picks, augmented by subtle synth work is among the finest albums to come from Sweden.

New Chimaira album came out a week or two ago. Great Death Metal band, their album 'Resurrection' is amazing. Their new one is called 'The Age of Hell'

    1. "The Age of Hell" 3:32
    2. "Clockwork" 3:43
    3. "Losing My Mind" 4:57
    4. "Time Is Running Out" 4:13
    5. "Year of the Snake" 3:41
    6. "Beyond the Grave" 4:54
    7. "Born in Blood" (featuring Phil Bozeman of Whitechapel) 4:08
    8. "Stoma" 1:28
    9. "Powerless" 4:31
    10. "Trigger Finger" 3:54
    11. "Scapegoat" 4:32
    12. "Samsara" 6:21

Some of the songs are quiet brutal and fast, but not on par with songs like Empire or Resurrection. Some of the songs are quite melodic, but again, not of the caliber like Six. Some of the songs had clean overly vocals which was kinda nice, but overall I don't think this album is as heavy as their previous ones. The songs aren't as rememberable either. The first and last three songs are probably the best.

Mastodon's released a some stuff from their new album that's coming out next month. It sounds like it's going to be an awesome follow up to "Crack the Skye"

I'm out of thumbs, but this. I've been stoked for their new album since I saw them at Heavy T.O and can hardly wait for it to come out.

I've been listening to a lot of old Death stuff recently and have found that you really can't beat the classics. Seriously, I haven't heard anything in a long time that can compete with Symbolic or Empty Words, and they're not even among Death's best stuff.
