"It's crazy, but it just might work."

    *

Character explains something in mild technobabble.

    Dumb character repeats it.

    "WHAT HE'S SAYING IS [blank]"

    *

    "Woah, woah, in English, please."

    *

"This is going to hurt me more than it'll hurt you"

    *

    Character types on laptop.

    Mechanical keyboard noises.

    *

    "What's plan B?"

    "THAT WAS PLAN B!"

    *

"please tell me it isn't ____"

    "it isn't _!"

    *

    Crazy explosion.

    "Are you ok?!"

"yes, but i'm trapped alone on the other side of the rubble"

    *

"I didn't sign up for this shit"

    *

"I don't like where this is going."

    *

"There must be a better way!"

[there is actually no other way]

    *

"IF YOU KILL HIM, YOU'RE JUST AS BAD AS HE IS"

    *

Talks about how terrible ___ is.

"__ is right behind me, right?"

    *

"in another lifetime we could have been friends"

    *

"We've only got one shot at this!"

"One shot is all I need."

    *

I don't like it. It's quiet. Too quiet.

    You know what annoys me?

Insert badass character into a slower scene in a movie. It's after an action scene, there's probably an Everyman involved, or just a sidekick. And the badass starts talking about their obscure interest. Like, okay. But I have an irrational dislike of characters who like jazz. And the badass starts lecturing about their moral/life philosophy by recounting an anecdote about a jazz legend who was born into poverty as the 9th sibling of twelve, struggled all their life, probably went blind, and died of the flu.

Twig shaped female character punches out big Russian man at least three times her own weight.

Yeah, I’ve got to say something similar to Silirt. When they have a mass fight choreographed and someone is pushed onto their back or spun around and falls to the ground and stays down rather than standing up again. Bonus points when the enemy is in full armour, modern or historical.

For large fight scenes pay attention and watch them take their turn to go at the main character. It's hilarious.

Specific to horror movies - when something 'scary' happens that only exists to scare the audience. Like the murderer darting around the side of the screen, completely unseen by the actual characters, or a sudden scare-chord on the soundtrack rather than diegetic sound. It's just lazy, like a shortcut to actually making a film scary.

    Most annoying cliche? Hmm...

Token minority. It's racist and needs to be done away with.

Or "power of love/friendship/compassion" deus ex machina's.

I hate when stuff is very much happening, but we have to take five minutes out of the film for these two characters to stare deep into each other’s eyes and express their emotions.

I liked how it was sort of subverted in Pacific Rim where the moment of pause is the catharsis point, but generally, it annoys the helm off my head.

I don't like how horror movies are some big bad these days that they devote so much screen time to. Horror should be the suspense you feel due to the setting and ambiance. It feels too ham fisted for it to be because some dude with a knife is trying to kill you in the most unrealistic fashion.

Slasher films never set well with me.

Plot contrives a way for the lady hero and the lady villian to square off for the sexy catfight off to the side of the actual action.

People crouched behind car doors in gunfights.

Cops who are supposed to be the good guys committing blatant ethical violations to cover up the consequences of the cool exciting climax.

The two English accents in Hollywood: RP and cockney.

Everyone wears 100% black outfits to a funeral. It will probably be raining, in which case everyone will have matching black umbrellas

Villain to protagonist: 'We're exactly the same, you and I!'

This legit makes me want to throat punch an infant every time I hear it.

Deus ex machina is the worst of the worst cliche.

Your hero is spent and dying...but oh no!...from some unplumbed depth, he pulls...a trump card!

Shoe-horning a romance sub-plot into 99% of the movies out there 'just because' people think other people expect it.

That tweet covers a lot of cliche jokes.

A cliche that bother me personally is: cool character walks into small-town bar. He orders a drink/sits in wrong seat/puts wrong song on the juke box

Tough guy walks up: "hey, that's my seat"

Cool guy "well, guess not, cuz it seems like I'm sittin' in it."

then they fight because they need to show how powerful the cool guy is.

Hell, there was even a Mandelorian promo where he fights some aliens in a bar. You can't even escape that cliche in space.

    The "misunderstanding" cliche:
When characters break up with another because of an thing that if given time could be explained.

Really, this kind of misunderstanding in any onscreen situation. Prevalent in drama serials. Just fucking be adults and talk.
