Filler post: Wine review!

Tonight's subject is something that is pertinent to all of our interests: WEREWOLF WINE.



Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon
Year: Don't remember, probably 2015 or 2016
Country: Romania (!)
Price: $9 or $10

This wine has so many red flags. So, so many. For starters, when I was image searching this wine for the above picture, apparently Werewolf Wine comes in pretty much every vintage you can think of, which doesn't speak well as to their specialization in a certain kind of grape. Secondly, the price point: Normally when I'm drinking reds, I like to go a couple bucks above the $10 mark, as below that I find the risk of the wine being either too watery and flavorless, or otherwise having an unappealing flavor increases dramatically. Thirdly, the country of origin: I don't think you can see it in the image, but the wine proudly displays "PRODUCT OF TRANSYLVANIA" at the bottom of the label. While the Transylvanian origin fits well with the theme, the region is, to my knowledge, not really known for its production of great vintages like other notable areas like Bordeaux, Burgundy, Tuscany, or Napa are.

All of that said, I'm happy to report that despite the red flags, the wine was actually pretty good! It went down reasonably smoothly, displayed the usual bold flavor characteristics of a young Cabernet Sauvignon, and had a mildly jammy aftertaste, just enough to be pleasant. We drank it solo so I can't speak towards possible food pairings, but I feel like the usual choices of red meat and otherwise heavy dishes would work well here. It put me in a very relaxed state, potentially useful to those who get frozen often as a wolf and/or frequently get called out for poor tone.

All in all, the overall excellence of Cab Sauv strikes again. My final verdict is that this is pretty damn good for a reasonably cheap meme wine.
