I'm here for about 15 minutes. Have no idea where to start if i were to catch up, feel like just real-timing in thread if anyone is here. If not I'm probably going to bed.

When I was a younger wolf (in like the 1 scum NOC game in my younger wolf days) I got caught by being way too defensive of my teammates. I think the mentality that you win easiest if all of you are alive and if people don't suspect your team, or if you dissuade someone FROM suspecting your teammates ASAP, is a basic mentality for a newer scum player.

If anything I think bussing/distancing are the more advanced plays you wouldn't expect from a beginner wolf. It may be easier to accurately scumread your own teammate but doing it organically and naturally, and not looking like you were distancing or waffling then going for towncred, takes more skill than calling someone out for voting your partner.

I'm guessing it'd be against the rules for Stanari to dump her messages itt so we can all have a looksie?

Self voting is the only answer.

Newcomb, don't take this the wrong way, but I think you're putting too much of a personal spin on what new players do or don't do. I don't think it's something you would have done as a newer player, but that does not mean new players won't do it. That kind of defensiveness is something I have seen from new players. It's not just that they want to win faster, it's a feeling of team play or unity.

I should start my own lolcatting service where if you're an outed wolf but too lazy to lolcat pay me and I will lolcat for you. Or idk if villager wants me to lolcat for them I could do that too, I shouldn't be picky.

I'm genuinely not sure what the wrong way I'm supposed to not take this, is.

It's not so much a personal spin as it is a way that I categorize newer players in general after having been in games with a bunch of them. And in general, I find that newer players who roll town end up kind of coming across in a similar manner no matter who they are. There's an earnest carefulness to them, a lack of awareness of how their actions are perceived combined with a strong preference for "not screwing up" over "doing something good".

To me, Scott's play hit a lot of those notes.

No one else seems to have this read, and at least half of the people who don't are town, so it's entirely possible that I'm off-base here. I mean, if we end up lynching Owner anyway over my objections and I'm wrong, I'll feel silly but the game will be in much better shape than if I'm right, so like. /shrug

Speaking of which, @fontisian when Owner entered the thread, you used some pretty strong language to townread that slot. Presumably you no longer feel that way. What would you say was the biggest thing, the strongest piece of evidence that changed your mind?

I feel like there's sometimes a carelessness to newer players, honestly. Like they don't always think about all the implications of their actions. I think that's where we are differing.

You mean carelessness regardless of their alignment?

No, carelessness on how certain things come across or could implicate them. It's not that they don't care, it's that they don't consider it.

I very much agree, I just think the act of rolling mafia and realizing that your entire game is about, you know, deceiving people tends to blow that out of the water for newer players.

Yeah. Like...I was hoping I might be able to extract a townread from his claim, but that's not happening.

    Loooool.

Probably. I can paraphrase them, but they have like no actual content so IDK how much that would do for you.

I have spent the last five minutes trying to parse Scott's conversation with Street.

    I haven't gotten very far.
