I don't really know how newcomb wolfs but if owner was a wolf and miner is a wolf and newcomb wanted the only wagon that was very likely not a wolf then that seems not great? But idk at the same time wolf!newcomb should have the ability to read the room and realize that defending miner and owner was probably a lost cause but I don't wanna start projecting my views on how to wolf onto him since trying to squeeze out another mislynch before they go down isn't completely nonviable I suppose so not out of the realm of possibility. Also the stuff I said previously still applies about not really being impressed with what he's done thus far.
