Okay. So, Professor Oak gives you a pokedex and asks you to catalogue all of the pokemon in the world. Any time you encounter a pokemon, its information just enters itself into the pokedex.

I had always wondered why Oak needed us to do this, since all that information was clearly already in the pokedex and simply being unlocked by encountering the pokemon.

But, maybe, that isn't what is happening. Maybe the player character is actually inputting all that information into the pokedex. Maybe the reason that tons of contradictory and impossible nonsense is in all the pokedex entries is because they were written by ten-year-olds immediately upon encountering that pokemon for the first time, rather than by trained scientists after years of study and observation on that type of pokemon.

Well, yeah, and the Pokemon professors each send out different ten year olds to catalogue the Pokemon, so when consistencies emerge, they figure that's the more reliable information.

Pokedex is Wikipedia made by kids. Makes much more sense than some of the entries.

It's a theory I've heard a number of times before. Some of the pokemon "facts" are completely outrageous. For example, Wailord's size and weight means that it's body density must be similar to that of air, or one fire pokemon's body temperature would set the atmosphere aflame.

I treat the pokedex like a cultivation novel, always be ready to dismiss any numbers it gives as nonsensical gibberish and mentally fill it in with something that makes sense.
