I also would like some interludes in the perspective of other characters.
But, I think it would be better if they are from non cannon or usual characters, when they are dealing with other characters, as in some squires talking with a named knight about some event and not from the named character POV proper, as it would allow to keep some leeway with future characterization and motives.

I actually think one of the main distinguishing features this has stylistically from canon ASOIAF is the one PoV vs many decision. This is very definitively Harry's story, and that sort of identity is a quality (intentionally) missing from GRRM's work. I'm not sure if I like the idea of interludes, as they weaken that contrast a bit.

Who is his perma-Kingsguard, then? Jaime? Surely not, with the carnal duties he has in Kings Landing. Will his Kingsguard show up later?

I think they may actually strengthen this contrast by showing how this story could be told, but aside these short interludes isn't. But as they say your mileage may vary.

Does he really need one? I figured that assigning him a permanent Kingsguard would be the king's prerogative. Hence why Joffrey got the Hound as opposed to some randome Kingsguard knight.

But there's a reason Ser Barristan went, and it has to do with why Harry won't have a member of the kingsguard protecting him.

I assume that once Harry's confirmed as Tywin's heir he'll be leaving House Baratheon and joining House Lannister. Is that how it works in Westeros?

I don't think a Kingsguard is appropriate anymore unless the king is deliberately reminding everyone [including Harry], that he's under the king's watchful eye. Guard duties would become a Lannister concern once Harry joins that house, otherwise the king would be seen as interfering in a powerful vassal's internal affairs.

According to Barristan, it is indeed the king's decision who the Kingsguard protect. The following are his thoughts from his last chapter in A Dance with Dragons:

When he assumes the Lordship he'll take the Lannister name.

So the guard is there to formally give Harry to the Lanister House and maybe get some monetary payment for that? And Barritan is there to act as a voice for the king in this business transaction, coupond with his interest in Harri's well being?

The guard are Harry's men, now. They'll get monetary payment for being guards, just like they did for serving the City Watch. Ser Barristan is there for a couple reasons, one of which is his interest in Harry's wellbeing.

Does making Harry a Lannister and heir to the Rock disqualify him from his position in the Iron Throne succession? I wouldn't think so, but I haven't trusted a succession law since I started playing ck2. I could see this being a way for Stannis to declare himself King once it's known that Joffrey and Myrcella are illegitimate, since with Harry Lannister disqualified Stannis Baratheon would be next in line.

Again, I wouldn't think the succession would work that way, but I've seen weirder things happen. Also, it occurs to me that if this was the case Tywin would probably be more hesitant to risk a Kingdom on the health of a single male heir.

No. Regardless of his name he's still the king's son.

I know right. That game makes me look at any representation of medieval society differently. Where's the money come from? Who inherits? What alliances would a marriage between x and y bring to the table? Does the cousin with a claim on the throne have the military and political might to press it if the king drops dead tomorrow? Does his marriage to a powerful lord's daughter indicate he needs to die?

Heh. If Harry married Danaerys, for example, then there's no way that Joffrey could see that as anything but a wilfully antagonistic move and a challenge to his claim to the throne. Harry and his descendants would be a grave threat to Joffrey's legitimacy. He'd be a fool not to assassinate Harry in that situation.

    CK2, heh. :awesome

Good question. I think that it doesn't disqualify him from the succession as long as he is Baratheon which, from what Cxjenious, he is as long as Tywin is around. But once he officially becomes the head of House and Harry Lannister? House Baratheon may have something to say against his possible ascension to the throne.

EDIT: Seems it took me too long to write this and there is an answer already.

Mainly, I was sort of thinking that if the Seven Kingdoms were in Gavelkind and Harry had the Rock already the succession algorithm might decide to pass him over in the first round of titles :p

Well you also have to wonder at Jon's response when the Game starts with his investigation into Cercei's kids. How will the fact that Harry IS the legitimate heir, and looks it, effect that investigation? Not to mention Ned Stark's poking around, if it ever comes to that.

I'll refer you back to this:

In canon, Stannis is next in line to the throne after Robert's heirs, so he has a great reason to discredit their legitimacy. With them gone, he's the rightful heir to the throne. That's why he raises the issue with Jon Arryn.

In fic, if Stannis discredits Joffrey and Myrcella, he'll still have Harry standing in the way to the throne. I dare say that's the explanation for Stannis' specific dislike of Harry. He'd harboured his secret suspicions against Cersei and his hopes for the throne, and Harry's birth threw it all to the wind.

Harry was quite sure, in fact, that his uncle hated him, or at least harbored a great dislike.
    --Ch1.

If Stannis discredits Joffrey now, all he effectively does is legitimises Harry instead at best, or creates a succession crisis with no clear heir at worst. Stannis' ambitions are stymied by his own sense of justice and lawfulness.

    He's an interesting character.

tl;dr: There may not even be an investigation.

What? It's not a business transaction, the King doesn't get x% off his LannisterLoans because his son is being adopted by his mother's house.

At least, I haven't seen anything in-story that would imply that.
