Why do you think Barristan convinced Kevan to make a stop in the Deep Den? He wanted Harry to have a good meal because Robert told him to get Harry's weight in gold as a payment.

You haven't seen anything not because there isn't, but because Harry doesn't know.
It is very probable that if there is such transaction Hharry wouldn't know obout it.
There is also a very strong possibility of existing such accord, as not only the royal purse is in debt to the Lanisters, as the King rob the house of their chosen heir.

Except Harry witnessed the discussion of where he would go to foster, and there wasn't any mention of Robert getting anything in return for Harry. Kevan put forward the idea of going to Casterly Rock (likely on behalf of Tywin?) and then Robert entertained discussion of a few possibilities. It was all pretty transparent, and there wasn't much to suggest there was any sort of transaction going on.

To be fair, Robert did seem to get more interested when Kevan said Tywin would make Harry his heir. So Robert is getting something out of the deal - his son at the head of the Lannisters, which would definitely help out with his debts I suppose.

Except that Stannis has no real ambition. At least not conventional ambition. He wanted Storm's End, yeah... because he was entitled to it.

First and foremost, Stannis Baratheon is about justice and law, no matter how unreasonable or harsh. He proclaimed himself King because in his eyes he was the legal King. It wasn't an honour, it was a duty he felt he had to fill.

If he suspected that Joffrey and Myrcella were bastards and Harry was trueborn I have no doubt that GRRM's Stannis would bring it up with Jon so that the law could be upheld. Even if he hated Harry, which isn't the case, in his eyes Harry would be the true heir.

He's a bitter, dry and prickly fart of a man but he has that big ol' ragin' boner for law.

Oh, and awesome five star story. This is the first GoT fic I really love.

The only problem is that that is not the kind of decision to be had on the spot, on a public forum.

Problably, and I say this only with my onw guts, before that open proposal, more to Make Harry fell like he had some kind of choice, the terms were already drafted and signed behind the scenes.

The adoption of a royal prince by any house as an heir is not matter for discussion and done by the godness of their hearths, but of state and politics.

The 'terms' of the deal were ironed out during the hunting trip. Harry wasn't privy to them. But there was no monetary exchange. More like favors, of a sort.

Seratin is spot on with his assessment of Stannis.

It's an interesting case. Because if Joffrey and Mycella are products of incest, it might invalidate Harry's claim to the throne even if he's trueborn. I mean, he's still the product of Cersei, who was incestuous. Robert's an absolute monarch - if he declared his marriage to Cersei invalid, Harry would be caught in that (unless specifically excluded).

Their marriage is still done and blessed by the High Septon, so it would most likely require him to annul the marriage. Like the Pope used to for royal families?

But then again, the King's have had quite the say in who gets to be the High Septon, so he's most likely just a puppet.

It was only a short time before Robert's death that Ned learned the truth about Cersei and Jaime. I think it may have only been a matter of days, though my memory is fuzzy on the details. Ned even refrained from telling him on his death bed, taking down his will and changing the wording so that Joffrey wasn't mentioned by name. So really, there wasn't the chance for it in canon, and we don't even know if things will turn out the same way in this fic.

Story probably won't go this way, but I had the idea while I was driving this morning.

Tywin: Happy Nameday Harry. What do you want?
Harry: Hm, actually Grandfather, I want some Owls.
    Tywin: Owls?
Harry: Yup. I've got an idea.
    Tywin: ...very well.

Harry somehow manages to magically train some Owls to act as mail carriers. But bonus! Unlike ravens his owls can deliver mail to specific people as opposed to places.

Heh, again, no reason for that to happen. But it'd be a neat advantage to have in this world, moreso than in HP canon (where communication was much easier over long distances given the muggle world, floo, magical items, and so on).

I'm of the opinion that owls can only magically locate wizards and witches, due to said wizard's and/or witch's own magicalness.

Always a possibility, but in his position he could just hire some trappers himself to capture some owls. Doesn't need to be a nameday present.

But he could charm some people for his owls to easily locate them. And then there could be this cool scene in the interlude where one of his enemies or allies who were about to betray him notice a white owl waiting for them nearby and know that they are screwed.

Ravens in ASOIAF are enough magical flying messenger birds for one story. No need to train owls. Just get those ravens talking again.

I saw a video of a raven saying nevermore once. The sacriest shit I ever saw. Really, I had nightmares with that fucker. The poem is a masterpiece, but fuck you Poe. And I didn't even know Ravens could talk, and so I see the video of that devil bird saying in a very deep voice, half scream, saying "Nevermore". Also, I agree, no more magical birds, ravens are enough.

I want to know, is Harry going with the Royal Family to Winterfell? Probably yes, but never know.

What if he becomes Harry Lannister, Joff dies and he becomes king? Does he become Harry Baratheon again or is the king now a Lannister in name?

I assume he would go back to Baratheon as that's the royal line. Unless he decrees himself to be Lannister of King's Landing.
