Ok now i've seen what you plan on doing with a pairing and i wont judge...yet. I'll read your three chapters and i certainly hope that i haven't made a grevious error. Your summery is good and it has sparcked my interest.


EDIT: Ok then just got off from reading it and i say that it's got it's good points and bad points. When its good it's good you have a good plot going on with the Obliviations and the locked gifts but it seems that you may be setting him up for a super! Harry. Personally i like to see a lot less interaction with the "ministry 6" but that might just be me. Nice take on the damage those Braines did its new and oddly refreshing.

 

ive been following this fic on HP Fandom, it isn't too bad, got some nice original bits and everything.

 

This is quite good. I like how Dumbledore is far from an idiot, like he usually is in fics like this (except overlooking Dobby's involvement). This is probably the first fic where calling the Knight Bus is NOT enough to escape from one of the most powerful wizard in the world.

On the downside, I don't like that whole super-friends thing with the Ministry group. I always find it ridiculous when Harry's friends spend their every waking moment thinking and angsting about him, discussing how "brave" and "selfless" he is etc. Meh, I guess I can live with it, just don't overpower them too much. Oh, and I hope you steer away from slash, but your choice really...

 

ip82 really hit the nail on the head with his review. It seems like all of Harry's friends have a hard-on for him at this point. Oh yay.

As far as pairings go, I read slash when the story is so great that you can ignore romance factors. No offense, but this story isn't up to that level.

 

One of the best things I liked about this story was about the werewolf council. I also liked that Harry could not just walk out of his relatives house without anyone noticing it.

I am curious about why Voldy would want to look human again, as I have understood it so has he purpusly made himself look inhuman to inspire fear in his enemies but I might be wrong.

 

I like it, especially the brain part.

However, I think most of us would dump this story if you go slash.

As for LV looking human:


LV in my story wanted to become human simply because he was having a hard time getting followers. That and some of his followers started becoming too scared to do anything when in his prescence, forcing him to crucio them and kill them to save face.

Also, LV wants to dispell the crucio everything image he has, as that is unfavorable for recruitment.

 

So what are the pairings gonna be?

This story is pretty good and it certainly is worth the time to read it. Like the others said, I hope the pairings won't turn out slash but then again, it's your choice.

 

I really like it. I admit freely, I'm always a fan of manipulative dumbles, but one always has to find them...
I've not yet finished it entirely, but I was already surprised by the twists it takes for multiple times... i have read my fare share of fics and I have not yet encountered the possibility of Dobby as the postman...
As far for the super-friends of the ministry 6... perhaps this was also a plan of Dumbledore which backfired... one never knows.
I'm also curious what measures James and Lily took to ensure the safety of Harry that DD was not aware of.

OK, finished with the last chapter, and I'm officially confused now. Where is it written that Neville has been obliviated? and by Lockhart non the less? (it's never written in canon about Neville being obliviated. I mean it is a valid assumption regarding his clumsiness, and I read it in different ffs but I'm just confused that the ministry five are talking about it as if it were common knowledge)

this story is a nice little potboiler with okay pacing. There are many "plotletts"
and with this new chapter one of them (or more) have been resolved.
It might be nice to know more about dumbledore's motives or see what Madam Bones is going to do next. It would give us a break from our lead charactors.

what is going to happen with all those french folks. I kinda blasted over that part, but the writer put quite an effort to show us all of Lupin's friends, the werewolves is kinds given, but the french have me guessing?

Before I read past chapter 1, I need to be assured that it wont turn into Slash!Harry. Interesting first chapter though

 

perhaps I'm just naive... but where do you get the clues that Harry will turn out slash? I mean, at the time being it would make sense for Harry Ginny...
I could imagine Remus and Severus, but even that is farfetched in my opinion.

I', wondering if Remus's friends never got a clue that there were bindings on him? I mean, when he was alpha and suddenly becomes tame... ok, he lost his friends, but is that reason enough?

 

hmm, a Harry/Ginny with a Bellatrix-like Ginny?

 

The story is good I am waiting for the next chapter to see what happens when the blocks on harrys magic are shattered. come on new chapter.

 

Just read this one. Not sure how anyone can claim it will or won't be slash. I saw a review response on ficwad assuring us it won't be Harry/Voldie slash but other than that, I think the author is trying to get people to read it with an open mind and she'll later make up her mind if Harry gets into a situation necessitating the evils of romance.

As for the fic, it's far better than most but struggling to hold my attention. A fair amount of interesting takes on manipulative!Dumbledore. Especially to see the whole "Ministry Crew" extremely supportive of Harry, even against Dumbledore. Usually there's always a knowing spy and betrayer, reporting, pretending to be something else. (Though how you could think a twelve year old Ron Weasley could fool anyone is beyond me.)

I like the excessive use of Dobby to get around limitations and for carrying mail. The expected goblin love and respect, that of course they never give to wizards but Harry is so different. Remembering Griphook and requesting him personally, yada yada yada. Not a horrible cliche but one of the most consistent and prevalent ones. We have a massive power boost coming in the form of a maturity, and in particular an "awakening."

Probably, my least favorite aspect of the fic is the mysterious blood based oath ritual thing that Snivelly and Moony, among other dead folks, did way back when Harry was a baby. Loving caring snivellus doting on baby Harry? And of course he secretly really cares for him, he's just been manipulated, and every aspect of his past is suddenly suspect. Gay!Snape actually makes more sense to me than straight!Snape. And I really don't mean to insult homosexuals with that comment, though I'd imagine I have. Frankly, this sort of massive character turnaround and shift just screams to me fangirl re-writing canon to cater towards her hawt-secksee-Snape-love. It destroys pretty much everything remotely interesting and likable about Snape in the process too. This is the 'master' occlumens and legilimens who can fool the Dark Lord and the Headmaster? Just a tool of compulsion charms manufacturing animosity between Snivellus and the Marauders? And apparently fooling the Dark Lord and Snape both with this? It seems Lily knew very well Peter was going to betray them and let things play out anyways. Nevermind that Peter should at least be semi-aware that Snivelly's doting on baby Harry.

I'll stop. This fic isn't half as bad as I'm making it sound. It's the exact sort of thing many here at DLP will enjoy greatly. Perhaps not the similarities between Bellatrix and Ginny, but I think those are pretty interesting. But for my tastes, when it comes down to it, I'm not seeing enough originality in this to make any different from your average Independent!Harry with a Sevvie-loving author. The author's reluctance to decide slash or het for Harry, or at least reluctance to publicly state it loses more points with me than if it were Harry/Sev slash. That said, I may give this another shot when there's a bunch more chapters as there is potential.

 

I see an amazing amount of potential in this one. I particularly enjoyed Dumb-old-whore's characterization. Manip!Dumble. is one of my favorites, as long as it leads to independent, dark or evil Harry.
