The sludge that Fanfiction is descending into.

Alright, I've decided that because we've seen the best of stories, the time has come for the worst to be shown. If you've seen a story that you believe is the worst story ever written, give out the link...It doesn't have to be a Harry Potter story, if you've found worse in other fandoms.

    Here's my entry:

    Teen Titans

    da triangl

Yes folks, this is the unrevised story title.

WARNING: Tinn, don't read this story, I fear for the author's safety should you see this.

Meh. I really don't see how this is showing the 'descent of fanfiction quality'. Yes it's terrible, yes there's horrible grammar, and yes, it seems like the kind of story where beastboy takes 5 chapters to eat a burger and ZOMG t3h t1t4nz r ded!

But it's honestly not anything new. I keep seeing statements about fanfiction quality degrading, but it's really not. It's ALWAYS been this bad. Fandoms are just getting bigger. And like anything, there's going to be some idiots in the crop.

An example is this website. I'm not calling anyone dumb so don't flame me yet. We've got around what....2500 members registered and only about 100 active users? And about 60 intelligent posters?

Yeah, that's pretty bad. Now let me use Harry potter as an example. Theres what, 250000 stories on ff.net for HP, and for the hell of it, let's give every HP author an average of 2 written stories. That's 125000 authors. I'll let you do the rest of the math.

My opinion on the story itself, however, gets a big fat Phail.

Dude, we've already got a topic called WTF Fics. It's in the S&P section. It's probably good enough for this sort of thing.

I don't feel this is even worth discussing. As Kaniel said, it's always been bad. With everything there are few people who can do it well and hoards of people who fucking suck at it.
With a larger amount of people, you get more suckers and more extreme variations (someone superdoubleplusgood, some zomg ther ded).

The only thing you could do would be raising awareness for quality fiction. But seriously, just trudge through the filth and you'll find something worthwhile.

Fuck me. Managed to read through the profile (felt like another language, but that's because I could only translate around half of it) and if that isn't a parody then I will eat my shoe.

    One of the flames:
Much lulz. The fag criticises spelling in Net Speak.

This is pretty minor sludge compared to netspeak sludge, but one thing I've noticed is that some of the more cliche post-OotP Harry-finds-an-ancestral-home-Dumbledore-hid-from-him fics, said ancestral homes have modern entertainment centers in their living rooms.

Now, let's review: If they had the means to do so, James and Lily would have outfitted said home with 1970s-era electronic equipment. Said equipment would be clapped-out rubbish by the time Harry got to see it in 1995 or 1996.

Lack of historical researrch or even some basic thinking about historical context is a problem in fanfic.

Thing is, mostly it isn't outfitted with stuff from 1995/6. It's outfitted with stuff from the year 2007...
