Actually, it might be. You are right about the Merlin's power acting first, but if Forthill's targeting works like NK targeting, then his protection would go to the swapped in target (Schrodinger in this case). So would anything else targeted at the swapped out player, like, say, Denarian coins. And Schrodinger would have made a good swap target since he was probably going to die the next night anyways.

No. Role-claiming is really only useful if it will save your ass and you have important info to share. You were't too much at risk on Day 2. I suppose it would have made believing you today easier, but who knows how the night actions would have swung with your reveal?
