Does that mean its useless?

I'm kinda sad that Jessie is dead too; she was my favourite of all the enemies in the fic and it seems a shame to have her die too, though it was a very fitting end for both Misty and her.

Also, even tigers need looking after as infants, which is what Munchlax is.

This was a pretty good update. Not overly surprised that Misty was killed off. In 50cc's other story The Gambit he killed off the female lead/main characters love interest.

Also, in a world where many people die, and where there are frighteningly competent baddies like Jessie and James, it seems a bit odd that a MC wouldn't die eventually. So I'm all for a MC copping it, add in the fact that I didn't particularly like Misty given that she had a somewhat shady past means that I'm alright with her dieing. Especially because it opens up some new development for Ash, just hoping you don't make him too overly angsty 50cc. They do live on the frontier, and when Pallet & his mum got nuked, he sort of got on with it.

Ash/Dawn time?

 

The implications of the assumed pairing 'Adventure/Romance - Ash K./Satoshi & Misty/Kasumi' has just taken a disturbing turn.

 

I'm ashamed to say that I called this back when Dawn was first introduced.

 

I am equally impressed with this development as I am upset. I thought Misty was a great character with a lot of depth that I could identify with. On the other-hand killing her off pushes this story away from just about any cliched story line in fanfiction. I can't recall any good story that spent so much time developing a character only to kill her off in the middle of the story.

A good bit of angst would be appropriate given all of the circumstances. Particularly that it was Ash's decisions that led to her death. The only way this could get overly angsty is if Ash pulls out a razor blade and starts cutting.

That munchlax, first a emotional tool of Misty's to heal over the death of her parents, now Ash is gonna raise it because 'it is what Misty wanted'. But Misty never stood a chance anyways. Ash can do it because of those genes of his.

 

Ash/Dawn and Ash!Munchlax. HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Hey akaktsn, mind throwing up some spoilers there? And when I say "mind", I mean "if you don't I will rip the anus from your firstborn and post it to Gary Glitter."

 

The ability to kill of characters properly is great - but there are certain characters you shouldn't kill off; mainly, one of the two main characters in a romance. Because then it becomes a tragedy, not a romance, and blargh the writing is good anyways >.>

Two characters in a relationship that break up because of the relationship just not working out.

I also got the feeling that Ash would end up with Dawn. I never thought that Misty would end up getting killed off though. But now that I look back it was bound to happen. Misty wanted to settle down away from the fighting and Ash wanted to keep going even after they eventually take down Team Rocket.

In my review to 50cc I guessed that Ash might go through a period of Angst in the next couple of chapters, understandably so. In the in though I see him being even more determined to rid the world of Team Rocket if just for revenge. I do wonder how Dawn and Ash will get together.

All in all, I though it was a great read so far. 5/5

 

They exist they are just boring so none bothers with them. Typically they turn into the main character dating several people and the story is overun by pointless romance. Or they just have the characters break it off at the end which is again pointless and boring. Romance should end in tragedy or far more common, with a happily ever after. Otherwise it should be removed from the story.

Misty's death

, people are forgetting the other feats of brilliance. Haunter completely kicking ass 'Excorcism' style and then drifting back to Ash's backpack sounding like Barny Stinson when it said "...spent."

The duel between Arcanine and RoboArbok was also awesome, as was Erika chopping that scyther to bits.

Regarding Misty's death, I'm sad because she was an awesome character and I genuinely cared about her (something that's hard to do in FF) but on the other hand, I see Ash taking Ozlax now. And that's just awesome.

Also, as cool as Ash/Dawn would be. I'm not totally sold on it happening. This fic is 60% action, 30% politics and 10% romance. I'd rather 50cc focused on the 90%.

 

Please, it's obviously going to be Ash/Officer Jenny.

 

People will believe what they will. As Seratin said though, romance takes a back seat. There might not even be a pairing, but if there is to be one I'll have to disagree.

If it's anything like 50cc's Naruto story, it's going to be Ash/Haunter-possessing-Misty's-body, who will then show their love by trying to murder Ash.

Despite all the Ash/Dawn talk in this thread (and myself being initially for it when Dawn was first introduced), now I don't find myself really caring that much. I definitively agree with Seratin, romance should take a back seat, and upon reflection, I don't think should have really been in the story in the first place.

Lovey-dovey romance and invincible protagonists would do nothing but contradict the rather brutal world 50cc has made, and it is a testament to their writing skill that they know this and have circumvented it handily.

Another thing that stood out to be this chapter was Charizard. That thing is absolutely sadistic and insane. Going around chomping on all of those redshirts. I couldn't help but want to cheer the murderous lizard on.

 

Amusingly, that's also a wonderful description of Haunter.

As long as the events of this chapter stay permanent, then I officially call the writer a fucking hero for actually doing what he did. I really don't see it in many fanfics these days, and it's good to subvert what I thought was coming ever since Ash and Misty got together: Maybe one or two fights, but they'd stay together. Didn't see this coming, not at all.

And yes, while it sucks to lose her, I don't mind much. On a story level it works in showing that the world-building, the Anyone Can Die attitude, is totally true. On a character level it works to develop Ash into something tragic and great. Besides, while she was a focus for the first part of the story, Misty's development didn't really go much for me beyond hooking up with Ash and oblique references to her past. If the story goes Ash/Dawn, I won't mind in the slightest, but only if done right. That said, I think the story not having anymore romance for Ash would work fine - it doesn't have to happen.

Haunter is fucking awesome. Charizard is fucking awesome. If Ash gets Oz and evolves it, it's going to be fucking awesome times a million.
