I am apparently wrong, the pokedex on my DS Pearl version says that Groundon is 110' 9" while his picture shows him being only 3 times as tall as the trainer.

Maybe people are taller in pokemon world. You just can't tell because all the buildings are built to scale.

...well, checking Bulbapedia, Groudon is 11 feet, six inches - or roughly 3.5 meters. Which solves things nicely. I suspect a typo in the Pokedex.

The best explanation I read was that the Pokedex articles were the actual legends behind the Pokemon. The reality is somewhat ... more realistic.

If I hadn't wasted all my thumbs on the funny pic thread, I'd give you one for this.

Just got round to reading chapter 24 and the only thing I can say right now is Holy Fuck Mewtwo is awesome! I've just realised that Mewtwo is fending off an army and engineering their downfall from within a cave, operating solely through cats paws. God damn he's amazing.

Also, can anyone else say Magnificent Bastard?

And with a Mewtwo that badass, people are still trying to claim that legendaries are going to be anything catchable.

The fusion-powered-bird doesn't make any sense because it's just a giant bird. Ho-Ho brings shit back from the dead. Groudon and Kyogre affect the weather just by waking up, and are controlled by magical orbs, and the next set of legendaries comes directly from the creator god. Mewtwo is just some genetically engineered abomination.

A more powerful Mew, which is The pokemon that can do anything thats possible by a different pokemon.

Also a theory I like RE: outrageous pokedex entries is that the 10 yr old trainers are the ones making them. So having the equivalent of 4th graders writing the encyclopedia on pokemon is bound to get more than a few wtf errors.

You're assuming that 50cal is going to keep their powers the same as in canon. Given his propensity to tone down powers to make them more realistic (while simultaneously managing to make them more dangerous) I'm not so sure this assumption can be made.

You're also assuming that these things will make an appearance.

Realistically, the fact that Ash came across every legendary, mythical pokemon (often within days of hearing about them, in the shitty tv show), is mind-boggling. As it is, I've seen no reason at all for any of these psychopokemon that y'all have huge boners over to make even a cursory appearance in this one story.

But what I'd really like to see in a realistic telling of a pokemon adventure? Ash. In a car. Driving places.

I can't remember if cars have been mentioned in the fic at all. I mean, apparently the most sophisticated weaponry is crossbows and spears, so...

And I just got around to reading the update.

Holy shit, Elm's gonna get raped. 8D

They also mentioned pokéball's that essentially capture pokémon by compressing/converting them into something less than what they were originally. They also have advanced armors so I'm thinking the main focus, technologically, is defensive.

Just popped into my head after the line above but, pokéball's could have started out as an attempt at defending themselves from wild pokémon as opposed to catching for personal servant/pet.

And yet, we have Mewtwo sitting in a cave fairly far away, assuming direct control of a pokemon's body. Mewtwo is just some random genetic accident, not an ancient, legend inducing godlike being, and he's doing this. He doesn't really seem to be toning the pokemon down except where it makes no sense (Having something that's nothing but a giant bird flying at Mach Two, or making Charizard's fire so hot it can melt through stone.) but in the case of the one legendary we've seen so far, there has been no toning down. It influences minds across the country.

Agreed, and as I said before, Mewtwo is doing this all while he's fending off an encroaching army within a cave hundreds of miles away. Add on to that that the first time he contacted Ash was in a city full of freaking powerful ghosts and you've got a seriously powerful psychic.

    Awesome update was update.

I do wonder if there's a foreshadowing in the references to the RL IDF (same acronym coupled with Hebrew names), or is it a playful reference - or alternatively me dissecting the fic too much.

    In any case, awesome.

    Daaaaaaaamn!

Never thought I'd see a pokemon story that had the balls to kill off pikachu! Fucking awesome. He was a heckova handicap by refusing to stay in the ball, and that pikachus aren't very powerful anyway.

Also, Giovanni, the baby is your's! What a twist!

    Yay! Good update.

    Holy shit.

I actually read through the passage twice just to confirm Pikachu's death. James's death was made of win.
