I'm pumped. Loved the first book, even though I wished it was 1000 pages of Kaladin.

I actually dug Shallan and Jasnah's chapters more than Kaladin, but there were no POVs I disliked. Mega excited that this is going to be "Shallan's book" in the way that The Way of Kings was "Kaladin's book."

And I'm already psyching myself up for book 3 which is supposed to be "Dalinar's book"

Yeah, Kaladin's pacing was very slow, and I kind of wished something would happen. Shallan and Jasnah were much more interesting.

Skin Games and Words of Radiance. WooOT :D

Definitely looking forward to this. I believe it was said somewhere that Book One was supposed to be the longest, so I'm hoping for a tighter plot in Book Two... I found myself skipping Kaladin's flashback chapters just to get back to the story.

I didn't skip his flashback chapters, but I certainly was feeling that same desire to return to the present.

I saw Sanderson mention in an interview that the next books each focus on a specific character, Words of Radiance focusing on Jasnah. Does anyone know if this means the books are going to exclusively focus on those PoV characters, or does it just mean that character carries the main story, much like Kaladin in WoK?

It's not going to exclusively focus on Shallan, it's just that the POV allotment will favor Jasnah, just like how The Way of Kings favored Kaladin.

Shallan, not Jasnah, and yes, it'll be like WoK. You'll see different PoVs, but the primary focus character will have the flashbacks and drive the main storyline of the book. Also, Brandon hasn't ruled out killing off characters before their PoV book comes out - apparently the dead can have flashbacks as well. Make of that what you will.

A few of you in this thread mentioned Sanderson's writing being "dry." Anyone want to explain what that means, exactly?

I haven't read WoK but I did read Mistborn. I thought the writing in that was fine, or at least there wasn't anything I noticed that I might call dry -- just a few parts where I was wanting to get on with it.

Hyped for this. Been a while since i read WoK, so i don't remember much save for the fact that the world building was very well detailed, maybe even a tad overdone, and that things didn't really kick off 'till towards the end. Been waiting on Republic of Thieves for ages too.

Is that first one the face Kaladin saw in the stormwall? Also not fanart, but I still think the book cover is one of the best ever.

I wouldn't call his writing dry but I think it's often flat, by which I mean, for starters, his prose is all plain-descriptive narrative, with no stylistic flourishes. There's nothing wrong with that per se, as a lot of writers tend to use that style, either because they just aren't strong at wordsmithing or because they like writing without spending much time on craft. However, if there is no elegance or cleverness in your words, then the dialog and action has to carry the story. Usually Sanderson can do this, but sometimes he gets too lost in describing his world and his latest magic system, or how wicked-awesome his characters' stunts are, or delivering monologues about noblesse oblige and Standing Up For What's Right. That's when sections of his novels can read like the infoboxes in an RPG supplement.
