I have actually wanted to watch this show for a while now but have never got around to it. This thread has just confirmed what I have always believed: It's worth watching! So I will make an effort.

@CheddarTrek: Can't believe you don't know Neil Patrick Harris, he's such a cutie!

Just finished watching the first season.

You are all right -- this show completely kicks ass in just about every possible way. It's funny, it's intelligent, and it has engaging characters. I'll be heartily recommending it around in the future -- especially if later seasons are anywhere near this good.

I'm pretty sure that Toby is my favorite character, though I haven't really been able to pin down why that is.

    :awesome

I second the Toby love. One of my favorite moments is when he, Josh, and Donna get stuck in the middle of nowhere on the campaign trail b/c they forgot about the fucked up time zones in Indiana. Toby lost a best and has to repeat "I work at the White House" to everyone he meets.

My track coach in college was just like Toby, even down to the beard. If you had a bad race he would just walk up and say, "Well, that was terrible," and walk away.

Toby was actually my least favorite character. He was aggressive on every issue I disagreed with him on.

    Yeah, that's hilarious.

Toby goes to shit more in the second season.

I'm at Badmoon.. which is AWESOME quote wise.

Leo decides that it is time for the President to talk to a lawyer about the fact that they've hidden Bartlet's "condition". As the President tells the new White House Counsel: "I'm going to tell you a story and then I need you to tell me whether or not I've engaged 16 people in a massive criminal conspiracy to defraud the public in order to win a Presidential election."

When the President finds out Charlie knows, he says: "My youngest daughter has a big mouth."
"No she doesn't, sir. She wanted me to be on the lookout for certain physical signs so I could tell the First Lady."
"We won't discuss this any more for the time being. It will be public soon enough. And the more conversations you have with me, the more lawyers you are going to have to talk to. And they bill in an hour what you take home in a week. So we won't discuss it except to say this: you're going to be subpoenaed. I'm confident in your loyalty to me. I'm confident in your love for me. If you lie to protect me. If you lie just once. If you lie just a little. If you lie 'cause you can't stand what's happening to me and the people making it happen. If you ever ever lie, you're finished with me. . . . Go back to work."
    "Is there anything you need?"
"I need you to go to law school and graduate as soon as humanly possible."

After the car crash... with the hallucination/ghost? Him walking through the rain to the press conference, ignoring the guy he was supposed to pick, then standing there, hands in pockets, and the smile.

I didn't realize I was grinning like an idiot until I got smacked.

I'm realizing just how many future stars, or folks who've done cameos on other shows I love they stuck on West Wing. So far Dule Hill from Psych, Mark Harmon just showed up as CJ's bodyguard from NCIS, Hank from Royal Pains, Richard Schiff/Toby was on Burn Notice.

    Nice alumns they got.

A nice quote from the episode I was watching tonight, Leo to the Iranian ambassador, after a confirmed nuclear test from an unknown source in the Indian Ocean

Very sorry for the four year bump, I really am, but The West Wing is now on Netflix, and if anyone hasn't seen it by now I would strongly recommend it. It's a spectacular show.

Ok, I absolutely love the show, and I've watched it twice... technically. Both times, I've stopped around the start of season 5, just after the conclusion to the kidnapping. Im not sure why.

How good are the last 3 seasons? I'm considering rewatching, and maybe this time i should just start at season 5?

I also found on Wikipedia just now, that Aaron Sorkin left the show at the end of season 4. How much of an impact doe this have?

All seven seasons of this show are amazing, makes me hate real politics even more.

I remember watching it off and on back in... 2009? I think the series was complete by then, but I got bored about halfway through Season 5 (I think, maybe early 6?) and never finished it. A few months later I read a summary on Wikipedia about the rest of the series and the spoilers I read didn't sound so great.

It may have something to do with Aaron Sorkin leaving the show after the 4th season.

Season 6 and 7 were just as good as the first few seasons, if not better. In fact the highlight of the series for me was Alan Alda in season 6 and 7.

Sorkin’s leaving was perhaps the best thing to happen to the show, I really felt it improved, but maybe that’s just me.

The show was at its best at the end of season 2 and season 3. The end of Two Cathedrals is probably one of the scenes, cinematographically speaking, on television.

The sixth and seventh seasons were nowhere near as good. I'm not using spoiler tags for a 6 year old show, but the Toby story-line and the ISS was completely ridiculous.

The Toby storyline with ISS is what I read about on Wikipedia and thought sounded stupid. Not only because of the concept but because I really couldn't see the character of Toby doing that.

Then again I didn't watch it, so w/e.
