Why does it make you hate real politics even more?

This, and this special documentary episode of the West Wing make me thing it's actually surprisingly accurate.

I liked all of the seasons, and I would definitely recommending watching and not wikipediaing.

Yeah, there's an episode where the President has to deal with a budget plan which the Republicans keep blocking and you just wish Obama could have pulled off the same thing. It was completely ridiculous and cheesy but you just couldn't help but admire Bartlett's balls.

I've recently been watching this show and I'm about half-way into the fifth season, it's good. It has annoying bits, like using Donna for basic exposition constantly, but that more or less stopped quickly. The long speeches are just a Sorkinism, you either put up with them or you don't. Sometimes you roll your eyes, sometimes you disagree vehemently but you move on.

All in all it''s a good show though.

I love the long speeches. And the preachy idealism. It's why I like The Newsroom as well I think.

I loved the show up through the 4th season.

Then...the plots of the White House staff got worse and worse. The '06 Presidential Campaign however saved the 6th and 7th season. The live debate episode was sheer awesome.

And hell, I wish Republicans like Vinick existed in real life.

I enjoyed 7 a lot because it was so different with the focus on the next president candidates.

Well, I think Newsroom is a really important show because it tells people about the rotten media reality and how it should be. While West Wing, despite being the greatest drama show in my personal list, only managed to fool people with a fairy tale. Sure a lot plots follow the contrived generic TV plots but it tried to sell the idea that there are idealistic but flawed people in charge which have the goal to do something good for the people.
In hindsight I can only interpret this as malicious fiction as Sorkin couldn't have been so naive to not know better.

P.S. We need The Shield version of West Wing these days.:sherlock:
