That is not a line of succession. It is a list of the peerage.

Peerage is not the line of succession. Peerage is the nobility. When they say peerage they mean the Baron is the 16th most powerful man among the nobles.According to wikipedia(yes its wikipedia I know), the title of Baron is the lowest of the peerage. Does it actually say anywhere that the Baron is in the line of succession or is this the only place where it talks about his place in the Vint hierarchy.

The Maer is a member of the peerage because his family refused to give up any of the powers. He can raise an army, grant titles, collect taxes, etc... Unless the current royal family was completely retarded they would have never set up the line of succession with the former royal family so close to the top.

Baronet is the lowest title in the peerage iirc.

    Yeah, I know. In my defense, it was late ^^;

    True.

They've been pointed out before, though. I was hoping for new information.

It actually did slow him down. He told the stone to break, but it didn't do it. Then he said 'Oh, that was half-clever of them' and made the stone turn to sand before he started on the copper.

    Also worth mentioning:

IIRC the baron is named 12th or 13th in the line of succession when the Vintish family that was lost at sea is mentioned.

peerage ranks <> line of sucession
But I suppose that if the throne is empty the peerage "rank" would be a very determining factor in a claim to the throne

Not sure if this was mentioned, but when Kvothe was looking at the Lackless box, he mentioned that the wood looked familiar, and he mentioned that it smelled of lemon. And what else smelled like lemon, what was a type of wood he saw earlier? The Cthaeh. Also, the age of the box was guessed to be around 3000 years old, so that may have some significance. If this was already mentioned, sorry for my repost.

    Let's see:

This is definitely plausible. Good work, Kronos.

Excellent spot for one word in the whole book. Good eye. And it says a lot about whatever the contents of the box may be that they used wood from the Cthaeh to house it. Ominous.

I finished the book finally after reading it over a few days and I have to say, while it was boring in the middle, it was well worth the effort to push through it.

I have some things I have to discuss but the best thing in my mind was the fact that while Kvothe was decaying in an inn somewhere the Chandrian seem to be alive and well. Finally a story where the hero doesn't go on a crazy revenge-filled quest and takes down all the immortal beings who wronged him! Despite everything Kvothe is still a man and if there's one thing I'm glad for is that he acts, and has the limitations, of one.

Also: I'm confused now, Kvothe's story is ending with this trilogy amirite? Or is it going to continue into other books? Regardless I hope we see more of what's happening to the world in the present time in the third book.

It's been stated in the thread several times that the next series of books won't focus on Kvothe.

And I, like many other people I would expect, refuse to believe that simply because we don't want it to be true. :p

That and because as far as I'm aware, Rothfuss didn't say 'Kvothe'.

I haven't seen the source material, but I wondered whether he'd said Kvothe or Kote. That kind of distinction seems pretty damn important, given what other wordplay we've seen Mr. Beard pull out so far. I can picture him revealing a possible book four starring Kvothe, now free from the snare of life as Kote, to a large outcry from everyone around him while he wears the mother of all shit-eating "I'm such a bastard" grins.

At least, it's what I'm hoping for.

I haven't seen it either, but someone quoted it on one of the threads here. If I remember right, he actually said that the next trilogy wouldn't have the same main character (but would have characters from Kingkiller Chronicals), and never used a name.

Does anyone actually know where to find the interview in question?

He also said that WMF would take one year. There's another 3 years until the last book, so lets face it, a lot can change in that time. He might decide to write a fourth, he might decide to quit writing altogether. I'm personally going to wait until the third book is released before I trust what is said.

Nowhere in that post does it say that Kvothe won't be the main character in the next trilogy.

Penny Arcade has made a mention of Wise Man's Fear. Thought you folks might enjoy it.

The whole Fey Realm kind of put me off when I was reading, but it was still fun.

The third book is bound to end with fans drowning in bitch-like tears. Think of all the plot strands Rothfuss has been weaving, and then think of where Kvothe is when he tells the story. There's Denna, Auri, mentions of Kvothe starting the war, an implied feeling of Kvothe being responsible for the scrael, being kicked out of the university, killing a King...

The next book will be filled with awesome, a dark kind of ahhhsome. But everything seems like it's going to go wrong, if Kote is any evidence. What do you think? Is Rothfuss going to miraculously pull a happy out of his hat, or are we heading towards a tragedy (in the literary sense)?
