Unless I read reviews (that I trust) saying this show is the best fucking thing in existence, I am not watching it. The Kingkiller Chronicle is one of my favorite books series and am highly skeptical of Fox being able to make it even 10% as good as the books.

Despite the fact that this thread was made after Jeram's post, people should talk about the TV show in the thread for the TV show.

Mainly just posts in this thread get my hopes up about The Doors of Stone.

Funny that I'm posting here without a Doors of Stone release date after my last comment, but this is relevant.

    Three upcoming stories (sauce)

I also learned about an existing short story which I hadn't known about, also set in the Four Corners.

Oh look a short story about Auri that has a pretentious title. I mean, yeah cool, but at the same time, it's gonna be gibberish to my fragile mind.

Call me when there's a Devi one called, "She's Here To Kick Ass And Chew Bubblegum. AND BUBBLEGUM HASN'T BEEN INVENTED YET." That'll be more my speed.

Pat just tweeted this a few minutes ago. What's everyone think?

@PatrickRothfuss: I don't go in for spoilers or anything. I'm just saying there's only so many ways you can anagram "En Temerant Voistra."

Here's a list of what it anagrams into. I'm generally pretty terrible at things like this, but I'd say that of those options 'A Treatment Version' probably makes the most sense.

Edit: Google showed this article written back in 2012 as well that anagrammed it in Latin, which I hadn't considered doing. That apparently gives results like:

Vestra At Nomine Ter -> But Your Name Thrice
Veritas Name Ter Not -> Truth Not Name Thrice
Vestra Ait Nomen Ter -> Your name says it thrice
A Vita Nomen Tres Ter -> A Life’s name three times
Atra Nomen Ter Te Vis -> You want the name of the dark times
Vita An Tener Te Mors -> Life Or Death holds you

My 8th grade Latin lessons haven't prepared me for this though so I'll probably leave it that.

So, The Slow Regard of Silent Things is out. I've read the reviews and the first few pages and I'm hesitant to buy. Nothing much happens, not even a single conversation. Rothfuss himself noted on his blog that it compares to Ulysses as one of the "all-time front runners for pretentious, literary self-indulgence". After reading the first few pages I'm inclined to take his self-criticism unironically.

Still, I'm tempted to buy it not for the story itself, but for any additional worldbuilding it does (in particular on Naming), plus hints as to Doors of Stone.

    Thoughts?

It's worth it. It's cheap, a short read, and has some illustrations in it.

I wasn't a huge fan, but I thought about it for a while afterwards, and I liked that it was different. A bit boring, but again, a short read, so not much time to be bored.

My main complaint was that I felt really bad for Auri the whole time, I just wanted to fix her, and that was a little unpleasant. I still think it is worth a read if anyone really likes Kingkiller, but then, I hate not reading every book in a universe that I enjoy.

Honestly, it read like a long oneshot fanfic. An indulgent, whimsical insight into a character with pretty much no contribution to plot or world-building.

It was sort-of enjoyable to read, but it wasn't really a story. Buy it if you're happy to throw money and sales figures at Rothfuss without getting a whole lot in return. You're dead on about Rothfuss' self-criticism.

The most significant thing I felt was in there was a look at how Auri feels about Kvothe, although it's nothing we haven't seen in the main series books.

Meh, I'll support Rothfuss by buying his 3rd book when it comes out instead.

Kvothe has already been expelled, so he might potentially graduate to be a Guiller. At the very least he should advance beyond being a re'lar. Do we know if there are any differences betweeen a guilder or gram? in the stories, there are references to an amulet that partially resembled a gram, so i wonder what it coould do.

I am hoping that Bast will be sponsored by either the chronicler or kvothe to study at the medica. Either glamored as a human or as openly a faen prince. Does the university actually have any rules to ban faen? so long as he followed their rules, why block his admission? I wonder if the chronicler will interview bast for info on the faen. He could debunk alot of faen myths.

Oh good, it's been too long since I saw a syed post. I thought we'd lost him entirely to spacebattles, which would be such a tragedy. That one was even mostly coherent!

I'm probably not going to read the story because it doesn't sound like my sort of thing, so can you elaborate on what's revealed here? Any other interesting information?

This was pretty much the only interesting thing in the entire book.
    """
He would need a place someday, and it was here all ready for him. Someday, he would come, and she would tend to him. Someday he would be the one all eggshell hollow empty in the dark.

    ...

She would call up all her cunning and her craft. Then she would make a name for him.
    ...

She knew exactly where she was. She was exactly where she ought to be.
    """

Basically indicating that Kote will go to Auri for help. Or perhaps he already has?

Bast story is set 6 months before tthe first book, it should be just about when he started spreading rumours about kvothe to attract some one to restore him from kote to kvothe. That seems important.
