We've got an Asatru guy on here somewhere, I remember it from 789's religion thread.

Honestly, it's no weirder than Christianity. They're both the random folklore of ancient cultures, the only real difference is that Christians were better at converting people.

Just watched it and I have to say, I it's probably my second favorite superhero movie after Dark Night. I really liked the mythology, I liked the characters and I liked the plot.

Agree that the action was edited a bit fast at times, mostly at the beginning, that it felt a bit rushed, both with the romance and the character development and really, the only real critique I have is that it wasn't an hour longer which would have fixed most of the problems.

Never read the comics, so, I don't know how faithful it was to them, but then again, I don't really care.

    Loved it, 9/10

I actually wish they would scrap the Avengers movie and rather make Thor 2.

They'll make a Thor 2 eventually. And we'll likely see Thor coming in to Godblast something or other in The Avengers, so you'll get your fill then too.

    Also, relevant.

Just watched it yesterday, liked it, it made up for the ironman 2 movie.

Loki was really nice, good pick, but isn't Loki originally banned to the
    underworld?

I remember that game. That one was awesome, and Doom was boss. The second game sucked balls.

I remember the scene, but I didn't recognize him as Hawkeye. Did I miss something?

He's never actually addressed as Hawkeye, but it's Jeremy Renner, the guy playing Hawkeye in The Avengers, and...well, he's got a bow and arrow. How many other people would choose that over the various guns?

    Oh, ok, that makes sense.

Btw, I will rage when Spider-Man is not in the Avengers.

Wtf he's not going to be? I'd have liked to see the Fantastic Four in there too, but they fucked that up with making him be Torch AND Cap

    Someone rang?

As for how it happens? One of two ways in North America, as a typical thing. Either you are raised that way, like I was, or you hear about it through comics or some game. Most modern converts are folk who think it sounds amazingly old-school enough to be hipster about it. Not to besmirch a good deal of practicing Ásatrú, who are good people who found their faith in the Old Ways.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I've heard very good things about it. Really looking forward to it.

Sadly, Spider-Man's movie rights are owned by Sony (who will never let go of them) and X-Men and Fantastic Four are owned by Fox (who, depending on how First Class does, might let go... someday.) I think Marvel still owns the rest.

Spider-Man's not really ideal for inclusion into the first iteration of the Avengers anyway. IIRC, when the Avengers were first formed he was still getting used to the spandex.

Also weird that half the original founders of the Avengers wont be featured. Much as I hate the Wasp and Hank Pym, they deserve to be in the movie of the team they were co-founders of. Their publicity is not as good as the others, so it makes sense, but still.
Heck, the Wasp came up with the name "Avengers".

I remember hearing about them being in it when Iron Man first came out, but I guess things have changed since then.

Yeah, Spider-Man is in the New Avengers (along with the likes of Wolverine, Captain America (before he died), Luke Cage, Spider-woman, Dr. Strange, Hawkeye aaand... Iron Fist? Yes.) who formed after Civil War split up the old gang. Or really, Cap and Iron Man.

Weren't they talking about maybe doing an animated/ cg version of them?

Saw this movie today then read the thread. It was better than I thought it would be. I'm happy that Silens Cursor made a note of it; to me Loki seemed all over the place.Watching it, he never really seemed like he knew just where he wanted to be, not that it was necessarily a bad thing. I've never read the comics so perhaps he is supposed to be that way?

The next time I watch it will have to be with subtitles though, Norse mythology was a long time ago and I am now pretty sure that my teacher was pronouncing everything wrong. Another reason for subtitles is that the group that I went with constantly used Xena, Robin Hood, and Jackie Chan names because we had absolutely no idea what their names actually happened to be.

I disliked the instalove romance that seemed to happen. It needed more or less to seem more believable/not there. I hope they have some extra earth scenes on the DVD, because Thor's personality transition seemed a bit fast as well.

At least he still has a way to get back though if they ever figured out Loki's methods in the beginning with the first few frost giants.

I think the cameos were some of my favorite parts.
For the Avengers movie, I wouldn't be surprised if they at least mentioned the avengers not on screen, though cameos would be cooler. I hope they do a good job with that movie as I've been excited for it since they first released information about it years ago.

I watched the movie last night and I ended up really enjoying the film. It was pretty cool that Hawkeye was in the movie for a tiny bit as well. :D

Did anyone else catch the infinity gauntlet in the room with the power source? Combine that with the snippet after the credits, I have no doubts that either the Avengers or Thor 2 will have something to do with the infinity gauntlet!

    Watched it. Loved it.

There was one thing I didn't get, though. At the end, where Loki was about to kill all the Frost Giants...

Why did they stop him again? I mean, I get the whole 'genocide is wrong' thing, but...really, why should Thor or Odin should care about? Shouldn't they, like, throw a party for him or something. I wouldn't have blinked if Thor had been pissed by the attempt at murder, but...the Frost Giants made him want to stop Loki? And he was willing to never see his girlfriend again (another thing that I don't get; see below) to stop him.

And on the subject of the Rainbow Bridge...there was a some drama at the end about it being destroyed, but...couldn't they just make another one? It's their tech, right?
