I've noticed an alarming rise of needless thread Necrophilia here on the Forum in recent weeks, and I am fucking tired of it. Seriously, today it's gotten so bad that we actually have a person RESSURRECTING A THREAD THATS BEEN DEAD FOR 14 MONTHS! It's not cute, it's not funny, and it needs to stop now.

Now I know some of you are going to say "But Gio -- I had something legit to contribute to the discussion."

To which I reply "Bullshit". If you revive a thread thats been dead through a long time then for god's sake don't spill this bilge http://forums.darklordpotter.net/showpost.php?p=63804&postcount=16 in it.

"Back in the day"? Bitch, if you actually bothered to read any of the old school threads instead of reading the header and bumping like a noob then you'd know that our minds never deviated too far from Horse Sex/Dumbledore/Death. Then again this implies that some of you actually possess the ability to read.

Since perhaps you cannot (or will not) read the forum rules I have taken the liberty of reproducing a "DLP For Idiots" segment below:

    1. Plaigarism = Bad.

    2. Put spaces in between your fucking paragraphs.

    3. If a thread hasn't been posted in for a while and your 'contribution' to the discourse is "Yeah -- what he said" then you need to give yourself an extra eyehole through the fucking forehead.

    4. Give us a reason and we will form a lynch mob.

    5. Post like you have at least some command of the English language (exceptions obviously made for those for whom English is not the first language they learned).

Approved and edited for emphasis by Lord Ravenclaw

And yeah that pretty much sums it up. I am so sick and fucking tired of seeing retards posting and committing thread necrophilia that I felt COMPELLED to tell you all to sit down and shut the fuck up. Or if you think you can't do that drop a heavy rock on your fingers until they all break so that you can no longer use a keyboard.

And here is the sparknotes for retards version of this post:

Thread Bumping Bad. Don't do it.

I completely agree with this Gio, there are so many folk here, who have been here for maybe 2 or 3 weeks, and seem to think they aren't newbies anymore, and that they can slag other people "for being newbies" when they themselves do the exact same things.

Very well said Gio, I agree completely.

I can understand mistaking the date format, but continuously reviving old threads is frustrating.

It's not funny it just pisses a lot of people off, and I for one am tired of the necrobumping.

It has gotten to an unbearable level of stupid posts that bump year old topics. After a year people tend to lose interest in that subject so they probably don't care what you have to say. The only time I find it acceptable to bump old posts is when a good story has been updated that was thought abandoned or if the post is a sticky. Well said Gio.

Well said Gio, but I fear the bumpers will never read this as they don't look at posts infront of page 5. Give it a year and you'll get a reply.

I know I'll get neg-repped for this, but frankly, I'm sick and tired of some of the shit that's been going on.

What the fuck is the deal with newbies coming in here and then making 500 posts in a month or two? Of the people that fall under the above definition, only Fuegodefuerza seems to make posts that have a reason behind them. Jesus Christ...you can't possibly have that much to say!

We don't want to read your every fucking thought. Make a post ONLY if you have something valid to say, assholes. If you get on here and make a hundred posts that go "LOLZ OMG that is so funny!" you aren't endearing yourself to the people that matter.

Get the fucking point: Say what needs to be said...if all you have is a replica of someone else's post or a idiot two-liner that endorses someone else's post, don't fucking post it. There are people who are regular posters, but have been here five times as long as you and they don't have as many posts. Use their example and shut the fuck up. If you're making more than 8-10 posts a day, you've obviously gotta tear your hands away from the keyboard and sit on them instead.

Thread bumping needs to stop as well. Apart from Dragon Watcher, who got negrepped by me for being an idiot and bumping a 14 month old thread, there are others who are also failing to use the brains that they were born with. For fuck's sake...you showed a modicum of itnelligence by knowing how to Register at DLP...now use your fucking brains and stop looking beyond the first page on any forum! Doesn't matter if its Mature Discussion or Real Life Discussion...if you have to go past the first page of the forum to find the topic, then don't fucking post there.

Get the point: this used to be a relatively small forum. When I joined, there were some 600-700 posters. In 6 months, this place has grown ridicuously, reaching some 1700 users. Undortunately the good is sometimes outweighed by the bad, because a lot of idiots have also crept in. until Tridentwatch, I didn't know of a single banning except for Feartheturtle (n00bs, don't fucking start threads asking who he is). Now, in the last three months or so, there have been like 10-15 bannings.

What does that tell you? That you need to stop being dickheads, and start being intelligent. This might be an Internet Forum, but we still appreciate a modicum of intelligence, respectful behavior, and awareness. If you're a 13 year old with nothing better to do, then fuck off. We aren't babysitters...this forum contains a number of intelligent people that are older than 12 and don't care to see you post bullshit just to have it read. You have girlfriend problems? Your parents getting on your nerves? You wanna talk about some random event in your life? I don't give a fuck. Keep it to yourself. Don't make stupid threads and stupid posts, because we don't especially want to read the bullshit that you've dragged out of the deepest reaches of your mind.

I'm getting sick of seeing Intro threads that go "Oh, I ahd nothing better to do, so I signed up." Well, fuck you. Don't pretend like DLP is some crock-of-shit website that you use to amuse yourself when you're bored. Your constant presence on the forums indicates much the opposite. So don't treat the forum as if it is a distraction for you. If you don't like being here, please understand that we don't want you here.

The next time you have 'nothing better to do', cart your ass over to DarkMark and let THX fondle you. That way, everyone wins...and most importantly, DLP doesn't have to suffer your stupidity.

As a newbie, I agree. I make very few posts, in fact I think half of them were in my own introduction when there was a complication over my IP as I use NTL.

My only major contributing post was about a plot idea for a story I spent a couple of minutes typing out. If I can make a post in under half a minute I won't make it, it is that simple.

I could have best part of a hundred posts, with something good said in them, but I don't because I'd only be saying the same things as everyone else, such as "Yeah I agree because <insert reason>" Now to me there is no reason for me to make such posts as others will. As newbie my opinion in here is slightly different from the mainstream as I am in the right time group to be accused of these actions.

I spend my time mostly reading the forum, and I get sick of reading a thread that goes to the top, looking at the post date of the first one and realising it was half a month ago, and with only two pages it hasn't been active enough without being bumped. It isn't big, it isn't funny and it sure as hell isn't clever. Make a post if you have something new to say, make a thread if it is a new idea, or else keep it to yourself, it solves so many problems.

    Never again

I'm sorry. It was not funny, I swear to never bump any more stories unless it's just to say that something updated. No sarcasm intended. I really won't. There's no real good excuse for bumping that and I was just joking about the jeph thing. Never again will I bump any thing over ten days unless I was on vacation and then nothing over fifteen days.

Oh and I'm not gonna say my coisin or what ever did it because, I did it.

Hey, I know that most of the people in my age group who would join and post on here would be.. well, not very good, but please don't insult the overall age group.

I'm 13 and I've been on here for quite a while, in my opinion, I don't think that I've ever made a problem with anyone about bumping or anything else.

    Thanks, SR.

It's a little hard for me to say "I agree with everything Gio said" without sounding like a newbie jumping on his nuts in order to gain positive rep from the regs, but--I do.

When I read Mid's post on my very unfortunate "Lady in the Water" thread (which I think he deleted), I realized that I'd stepped into a place that it's regular members love and rightly want to protect from idiots, and it kinda sucks that I fucked up on the first try.

Now--having said that, I think someone (madeyemoody, maybe?) suggested an invitation-only thing, and it would be unfortunate to have to do that, but maybe it's not such a bad idea?

I fully realize of course that this would mean I myself probably should've been invited if that were the case, but honestly I have looked at other HP forums and none of them have come close to this one. I like it here. I want to stay.

I can wait patiently for my newbie status to change--and if that means not posting as much, or whatever--then so be it.

Oh yes, and--in my own newbie-ass defense--at least I never bumped a dead thread.

Honestly, I was posting a lot when I first got here. I guess that's just the phase of initial enthusiasm for being a part of something new.

But still, there's no excuse for shitty one-linear posts. Better take use your time differently and instead of ten replies without meaning, type down one multi-paragraph reply that means something. Or even better, open a new thread (and explain what's the point you're trying to make).

Actually, I also remember Vorlon, Slytherin Damian and a few trolls who got banned after a few posts.

That's ok, everyone makes mistakes. You just don't make them in front of an angry mob of oldtimers, looking for some n00b blood... :)

k_writer: I think your recent post more than made up for the crappy start.

Agree 110%. Jesus, I don't know how many times in the past few months I've seen some idiots bump topics. Some like Patrick F (who has stopped), and Sihrin, wouldn't even post in a topic that wasn't at least a few weeks old.

I agree that Necroing topics, on any forum really, is quite a pain in the ass. Course I've been to forums where you'd get banned for necroing a month old topic, I would suggest incorporating the same concept here, except you guys are actually very friendly when the newbies don't do the follow:

    1. Admit they're a rabid H/G fan (some will admit they read H/G, however most aren't fangirls/boys)
    2. Think HBP was a great idea (I'll admit it wasn't as bad as half the people here think, at least it cuts down on the number of OCs I have to make =D)
    3. Think Tridenting a story idea is the best concept since sliced bread

In other words, the people at DLP are actually pretty cool (from what I've seen), so long as you don't do any of the above. Plus, you're more mature (and immature when it comes to joking about things) than any of the other forums I visit, so it's good. =D

And I also agree newbies getting an arbitrarily(sp?) large amount of posts in a short amount of time, when the posts are spam, are also pains in the ass. But it's called the Ban/Ignore button. =D

I find this thread very amusing for some odd reason. But yes, they are correct about pretty much every point they made. Just like with the shit that was being posted in the library, it's got to stop. At least the library thing was solved somewhat, though there are still a lot of threads to search through and weed out.

    Ahh, work.

I've been wondering about this for a while, and considering it's on topic here, I suppose this would be the better place:

If you have a comment on a story in the Library that people may not have posted on for a while (be it a few days or a few months) - and I mean a legitimate comment, not a "I like this" short answer - is it permittable to bump it? I know you don't like duplicate threads around here (but then, who does like them?), and I got a bit confused about what you should do about that.

Hope that makes sense... typing comments at 2AM doesn't get me at my most comprehensible.

Yes you may. I can't see any fault with it if it's a real post for a story thread.

If it's a useful post for a story thread (not they updated), then go ahead. If any other thread...it better be damn good.
