Goddamnit people, you're not helping the cause by watching online. Be lads and watch it on television so you can spike their ratings.

    ...

    It's there.

I hear Snarf doesn't talk, which, if true, would make this roughly five bajillion times better than the previous edition (Sorry, Snarf).

Not where I live (at least as far as my tv guide goes). I'll support it when it comes... but in the meantime I'll get to watch it in about 15 mins.

Thanks for the thread-start, btw. Didn't realize it was out yet.

    Chalk her absence up to...

    1. Her presence being unnecessary to the plot.
    2. Time limitations.
    3. The unavailability of Cheetara's voice artist. :p
    4. The almost assured projection by the staff that this would be a viewership dominated by young males, who have more interest in fights than fleeting glimpses of an older female in non-combat scenes, especially when including her means you're going to have to come up with a plausible reason for her to be dead by the end of the episode, bearing in mind that you can't get away with another blatant on-screen death in a "children's" show, and don't want accused of marginalizing the Queen's -and thus a female character's- importance by killing her off-screen.
It could simply be that she's already dead. On the other hand, if you want to make some assumptions about the Thundercats world, maybe there is no (one) queen.

Lion-O is the younger son and, yet, he is the heir; it's a given that he will receive the Sword of Omens and the claw shield. Tigra, on the other hand, is the older brother and it is treated as a given that he will not be the next king.

And there was mention of the honor of kingship being reserved for, "the bloodline." Given that the king is more lion-like, and so is Lion-O (if his name weren't clue enough), it could be assumed that this is what they meant.

    Lions rule.

Now, either these different breeds are simply birthed at random, and Tigra had shit luck in not being born as 'King of the Jungle' (yeah, lots of tigers in them thar jungles), or a particular 'breed' of cat... person, will give birth to the same breed.

It could be that there was a queen, she was a tiger and, in Lion-O's case, his father's lion genes won out. OR it could be that there is no queen, just likely gene donors/baby carriers, picked from a select group, whether that group is a stable of baby providers chosen from the public or multiple 'wives'. Which would mean that Tigra and Lion-O actually have different mothers.

Neither of whom hold enough importance to qualify as Queen. Ouch. :(

Tigra, therefore, would be the result of a (more or less) purely recreational roll in the hay, while Lion-O was born specifically to continue the royal bloodline.

My guess is #4. It's a lot less convoluted, and it is driven by the concerns a cartoon producer would have.

But speculation can be fun, so I figured, "What the hell. Why not?" :nyan:

Ah... I was interested enough to tune in for the east and west coast airings of the show, but I hadn't gone looking around for any info.

Edit: Guh, and that confirms my suspicions that they would invent a love triangle between Lion-O, Cheetara, and Tigra (since they made it painfully obvious that there would be one). I'm not looking forward to that.

So you do realize that Cheetara is played by Emmanuelle Chriqui? She's not that young, but she IS that damn hot.

You're not wrong about her looks.

And, to be clear, I'm not disparaging her acting. I was speaking to the phenomenon of most female cartoon characters (not all, but most) being given girly, high-pitched voices, regardless of age.

Of course, I'm tempted to say Japan is much more guilty of this than the West, but then Japanese women's voices often tend to sound a bit high and girlish to my ears, so I could be overstating things there.

As far as Thundercats goes, it's early and she hasn't had much screen time, so we'll see how things develop.

Because it was a lazy Moby Dick ripoff, a pedestrian attempt to show Lion-O learning one of the life lessons he'll need to become a decent king, or because of fish people?

Any of the above is a potentially valid answer.
