    Tivor by CrazyDan
    Title: Tivor
    Author: CrazyDan
    Rating: FR18 (TtH rating) - possibly M?
    Genre: Humor
    DLP Category: Humor
    Pairing: None at the moment.
Status: WIP, 20 chapters, 25k words
Summary: What if James Potter made a magical Tivo? What if Harry got his hands on it as a child?
    Link: Click Here.

I ran across this story earlier today. I think it's very funny and is deserving of consideration of being in the library. That being said, I'm not much of a fan of the short chapters, and Petunia is slightly out of character. There is a perverse sense behind her characterization though.

I've actually been reading this series for a while. Stumbled upon it after reading CrazyDan's Buffy/Venture Bros xover.

Unfortunately, this is a far inferior work compared to that one shot. It really isn't that funny. The Tivor has become some ungodly learning device meaning Harry/Hermione/Petunia are at the very least gods of pop culture. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if there is a chapter dedicated to them winning some national Trivia Pursuit contest.

    2/5 for me.

Nah, I liked it. It wasn't very believable, but still funny enough.

Before I read this can I just ask, what the hell is a Tivo?

People are still slaves to regular programming? Sigh. (Yes, I stole that from Harold and Kumar 2.)

Since I'm being nice, the short answer is TiVO's the biggest brand name service/software and a pioneer of the DVR field. Pause, record, and rewind live tv.

As for this fic, if it's the one I remember reading several chunks of on the CaerAzkaban yahoogroup then it has some funny and entertaining moments. It never really quite clicked with me, and I recall thinking it was an idea the author never took anywhere, just expanded on in more depth than I would've liked.

I remember more "huh, okay" moments than cracking up in hysterical laughter. Closer to mildly entertaining and a way to pass the time than epic lulz or DLP library badge of honor stuff.

It's probably most telling that I'm pretty indifferent to following the link and seeing if it's gotten any better in a cohesive posted to a fanfic site format. I'll probably read it again when I'm looking for a way to kill a half hour.

I've been enjoying this personally, but it isn't DLP material. The plot requires some more polishing, even if this is a humour fic. Some parts would have been more entertaining if expanded properly.

The Brits have 'Tivo' only here its called 'SkyPlus' and you only get it by subscribing to Sky satellite television.

As for the fic............meh I read about two chapters and got bored.

I read it and it's very... blah.

It's aiming for humour, but not really delivering, or it could be plotty, but then is ridiculously over-powered.

Looks as though the author had a vague idea and is just writing it out without thinking any further about why it is.

It's okay, a little bit lacking but when once you get into the story it's somewhat interesting. None the less the beginning was boring and the humor didn't get much more then a few smile out of me, it seemed a little bit lacking. 3/5

I can't believe this is actually here. I linked this in IRC yesterday as the second worst fic I had ever read, and we had a good laugh at it.

1/5. Only My Immortal could have done worse.

    Wowzers.

Is that the one with Harry as Inspector Gadget?

Anyway, read the first chapters and I really didn't like it.

    1/5 from me.

How can you even give this a good note?

You need to read Cindra's work if you're looking for serious contenders for worst fic.

I'm not normally a fan of stories that feature machines that make Super!Harry, but as far as "Tivor" is concerned, I give it points for making me smile and laugh during a hectic work week, using something as a HP fanfic plot device that's not been done before to my knowledge, and finally, I've got to confess that I'm a bit of a fan of Don Adams' work. I remember watching reruns of "Get Smart" when I was younger. Dudley Dursley winning the national spelling bee got lulz bonus points as well.

I don't believe it's a 5-star work. I know it has its problems. I do consider it good enough to be considered for the library or a 4-star fic, which is what I rated it.

    Would you believe...

    Missed it by that much.

Erm......okay? 3/5, I suppose. The grammar and spelling were decent even if the storyline left me a bit cold.

As a member of Caer I get the occasional update which I occasionally read and I have to say I like this, though it might seem a little Super-Harryish and Super-Hermioneish...

If I send the author a pile of commas and a beta reader, do you think I'd be able to make it through the story even though the premise really, really makes me cringe?

Won't rate it because didn't make it through chapter one. Dialogue, however, was IMHO stilted and made of fail, and the prose was wooden.

I enjoyed it. It isn't funny, and it isn't good, but it's a nice light read when you've got nothing else happening. Ideal material for the bin.
