Ok, so I have within me what I beleive to be a decently original and good idea for a fic. I went a bit nuts, and planned out about two pages in 12 point font. It has a full plot, and plenty of room. It's pretty much a challenge.

But, I can't decide whether to post it as an official challenge, or keep the idea for myself. I can't see myself starting another fic for awhile, as I have Constructing Destruction to worry about for a long time (chapter three will be written by next Tuesday, for anyone who cares).

What should I do? Should I keep it? Post it and use it anyway if I ever get around to it? Post it and get mocked because it's not nearly as good or original as I thought it to be and isn't worth keeping to myself?

Is it kosher to attempt a challenge you posted yourself? Or are challenges usually things that you don't think you'll ever write?

I say post it, and do it yourself if no-one takes it or if someone takes it but bollockses it up. But then again I've got a pile of ideas that are apparently good (or so I am told) but haven't been posted as challenges, and are unlikely to get written by me any time soon. So, please yourself, really. Would you be happier to have someone else writing your idea now or yourself writing your idea later?

I really don't know. I think it'd be awesome to read, but I'm not sure I'd ever get around to writing it. A few elements in it are from my own story plan, but they're the generic parts that can be used over again (themes). I've got my own fic, and an eventual sequel (hopefully).

Meh, I'll wait a few days and post it. I'm sure someone here could do it justice. I'm just worried someone will find it and turn it into a angst-fest, as it has the potential to become one.

You can always get on IRC if you want to talk about your plot bunnies without having someone nick them. Wander into the Study, where me and Vash and Ellie and the rest of the gang lurk.

Er, I have like 5 ideas for stories, and all quite a bit more original than my story I'm writing now. If it was me, I'd keep them for a while, but if it just doesn't look like you're going to get around to it, then post them as challenges. It depends on how badly you want to write it, I guess.

Well, in the end, it really does come down to whether or not you, yourself want to eventually write it or not. If you're positive you never want to write this, but do want to write it, post it as a challenge. If you think you want to write it, but not immediately, flesh the ideas out as much as possible without writing them and save them to your computer for future reference.

Then, obviously, if you want to write them, yourself, and immediately, I'm sure you know the standard procedure.

Doesn't have to be written by just one person, right? Share it, possibly write it yourself later. If somebody else does it well and you do too, then you have two good fanfics that happen to be written on the same basic plot.

Post it if the challenge is about SETTING (like an imaginative alternate universe or something). Keep it to yourself if its about PLOT, especially if there are twists along the way (or god forbid, if it it gives away the ending).

Or post a stripped down version of the challenge, to gauge reactions, but keep the juicy stuff to yourself.
