I hate to say this, but Rowling gave the fangirls a legitimate basis for the muggle characters, at least, to be toting iPods. Dudley has a PlayStation in Prisoner of Azkaban. That's in 1993. At that point in the real world, the PlayStation was still called the "Planned SNES CD Drive."

 

It's magic.

 

To the uneducated proletariat, PlayStation was a generic term for consoles for a time. It's only recently that consoles have become more mainstream, with Microsoft taking aim at the casual gamer (aka frat boy) demographic and the DS going nuts with Brain Age and the like. Still, it's stuff like this that an editor is supposed to catch.

 

I thought the playstation sentence extremely funny when I was forteen. That is fortunately no longer the case, however.
