^This. As a mortal counter to the Dark One (technically mortal) it's good to see Rand's presence can offset all the rot and destruction. Makes sense.

Looks like he's off to Tar Valon. That should be interesting.

    Very excited about this one.

    Sanderson is awesome.

Anyone else read his new book The Way of Kings? I believe it is the first of a 10 part series...and that bitch was huge too. like 900 pages I think it was.

Yeah just finished it. And Sanderson is awesome.

The Way of Kings is the best thing on the market at the moment. Which I know isn't saying much, given the rest of the chaff, but it is in a league of its own.

It's fucking epic. I wonder if he'll actually get around to writing 10 of these books though, if they are all the same length as the first one.

I was so pissed because my first copy was missing 30 pages starting at page 800. They weren't torn or whatever, just missing, like whatever machine binds the books made an error or something.

I took it back to B&N and they gave me a new one free of charge, but I had to wait an extra day to finish the book because of that nonsense.

Damn it you two, now I want to pick up that book but I am currently right in book 3 of WoT and still have all the other 8-9 books to go >_>

Quick question though, since I didn't find a general WoT thread, am I the only one really disliking Egwene?

No. But then, pretty much every female in this series is a fucking bitch to some degree. Part of the reason I put it on extended hiatus.

Yeah, I noticed. It is like "you have to be at least this bitchy to join the Aes Sedai" :/ Still, I can kind of respect/tolerate most of the others, but Egwene kind of takes the cake in bitchiness. She and Moraine are pretty up there.

    Nynaeve is awesome though.

Really? I hated Nynaeve more than anyone else in the entire series.

And it's not just female Aes Sedai. It's every female ever introduced to us, ever. At least, to the point I read to, which was book six. I think there had to have been something seriously wrong with Robert Jordan's views on women.

Nynaeve has the justification that as wisdom, she is treating everybody equally like that. Egwene just those she feels superior though, which are the three boys. Aes Sedai, of course, are just manipulative and infuriating bitches. She is also quite capable and compassionate, Nynaeve I mean. Dunno, while she might be bitchy at times, she always had a good reason for it. Only in the beginning was she a bit off-putting but after coming with them she turned out to be quite a good character. At least it felt like that to me, I never had the problem with her that I had with the other females in this story.

Agree on the female thing though, still I really dig the books if only to see Nynaeve, Rand, Matt and Perrin to seriously fuck the Aes Sedai up at some time. (dunno if that will happen)

but as I said, just in book 3 right now, might change with time

In the later books Mat becomes one of the most awesome protagonists in fantasy literature imo. I'd read the series just to read about Mat alone. If it's any consolation some of the bitchiest of bitches do get their comeuppance to varying degrees as well in later books and others do mellow out but the general trend of bitch does continue.

Heh, I thought I was the only one to just read the Matrim portions of the book. He's much more fun to read about than the other 2.

I love reading all of the parts of the books, it makes the world seem clearer and when you get to a part where someone was making a plan and it shows up later on and people are going wtf is going on you are nodding your head thinking that the plan which was made earlier was used.

The use of many, many points of view in any fantasy book is becoming and epidemic - Butcher's Codex Alera and Sanderson's Way of Kings both do that, and it pisses me off. The books were good, but it just annoyed the hell out of me, because I wanted to get back to the main character I loved.

RJ started WoT purely from Rand's PoV, and split off when the main group of characters diverged, rather than doing a dozen chapters with a dozen different characters right from the outset. That made it work. He's the only author who can really pull of multiple PoVs without irritating me. That said, it's a little annoying when I want to skip the tedious portions of a character's life and get back to where something's actually happening.

Am I the only one who's been really enjoying Egwene in the last couple of books? Yeah, I get why everyone hates HER, but those scenes were among the most interesting. It was something different, and fascinating. Or at least, that's what I thought. I imagine that it'll drop now that she's coming back into power.

    WARNING FOR SPOILERS:

I don't know. I started out liking Perrin because of the potential for wolfery-related badass and the fact that he had two hawt royal bitches angling for his cawk. He had the Children of the Light bend at the knee like he was their pimp, while hunting down a wolf-killer through the dream-world. Then he just fell by the way-side doing practically nothing for books at a time but watch a bunch of Shaido Aiel while his wife seduced a good guy to make her way out, resulting in his death. And he dropped down dramatically in my opinion.

Then there was Rand. Insanely noble and a bit protective of women, yes, but there were his moments of badass from books 1 to 13 that redeemed him, as well as the way he interacted with Lews Therin that I took a liking to. But he's generally gone up and down in my opinion.

Finally, there was Matrim Cauthon. He developed from an eager lad ready for adventure to surviving poison from a place just as evil as the Dark One, cursing out Aes Sedai in dead languages, manhandling expert swordsmen with a fucking stick, walking through the deserts of the Aiel Waste, surviving death at the hands of those dudes in the tower, picking up his bitchingly cool spear, killing the leader of the Shaido Aiel in combat, saving a few thousand useless noblemen and their men from certain doom, and consquently forming the most badass millitary organisation in WoT-verse. He followed that up by fucking a queen, surviving an ultimate assassin so far and marrying an Empress of an land greater in size, population and everything than the entire Westlands. If he doesn't become officially get recognised one of the Great Captains and as the greatest military leader evar, then I will be pissed as shit.

I like her quite a bit when she's dealing with Aes Sedai, but the main women treat the Big 3 like shit and it makes them annoying(Except Min, she's awesome).
I'm giddy for Moraine to return though. The quality of the books started to drop off after she 'died', but have started to come back with Cadsuane, and TGS kicked ass.

I never really liked Cadsuane. She was on such a high horse it's a wonder she could breathe, and I really liked it when one of the Wise Ones (Sorilea I think) pointed out that she was just a bully in TGS. Her intentions may have been good, but she had no concept of how to do anything without force. I would have expected an Aes Sedai, especially one as experienced and old as Cadsuane, to have a lot more subtlety.

    This, basically, plus what
Tam said to Cadsuane near the end of the last book. What he said, especially in his calm tone, summed up a lot of what I felt about the big bitches in the series.

Sorry for you guys you'll have to wait - meanwhile I'll certainly enjoy the next few days.
