We have all read stories where Harry and/or friends travel back in time, be it the founders, Voldemort's school days, the marauder era... but I have yet to read a story where the opposite happens- young characters travel to the future.

Examples; Young Lily and/or James travel to Harry's school years and has to fit in with Harry's friends, instead of the traditional Harry has to mingle with all the old order members and death eaters. Or young Tom Riddle travels to Harry's school years etc...

I have read a lot of fanfiction, but I do not believe I have read one that is a future travelling story (ignoring the fact that time travels forward naturally...). The closest I have read to something like this is http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5306772/1/Magical_Chronicles Harry both travels back in time to his first year and resurrects Ravenclaw from 1000 years in the past... but the story is not very enjoyable.

I'm looking for a true future time-travelling fic and not one where Harry and Voldemort both simply get resurrected in the year 3000. It doesn't have to be a 5/5 story, but it has to be readable with decent grammar and no glaring spelling problems. Pairing doesn't matter but no slash. And I apologize in advance for abusing this search forum.

Amerision's Lost Time is a decent Harry-in-future story, with just over 35,000 words. He hasn't updated it in a while (just over a year) because he's been working on other projects and presumably has to live in the real world, as well, but you should check it out.

summary: After his last battle with Voldemort, eighteen year old Harry wakes up in the future. He's older, next to a wife he never married and working as the Ministry of Magic's finest expert in solving murders. They tell him that he won, but Harry knows better...

I want to see a story where a cave-man travels to modern Hogwarts. And they have to teach him how to adapt to the 20th century, and he is afraid of technology and the castle; but he ultimatly teaches Harry how to be a man and get with the girl of his dreams. Sadly, he will not convince Harry to ditch his annoying best friend.

He will, of course be played by Brendon Fraiser.

This is actually quite an interesting plot bunny, to me at least, and I will also second this request for good fics and/or an author willing to write it!

I kind of like the idea of James and Lily leaping forward into Harry's school years and trying to blend in there.

Now if only there was a story like that...

D: I'm surprised no one's thought of that before. It opens up many possibilities, like how Lily and James react to the fact they wind up having a son, if it takes place when Lily was hostile to James.

I saw at least one fic like that, but didn't read it past first chapter, because it didn't catch my interest. Still, it was done and it is somewhere on fanfiction.net.

Reminds me too much of all those crappy 'The Marauders Find the HP Series' stories, so I'd pass on it.

I have toyed around with a story where Harry went to the future.

It wasn't terribly heavy on plot, but then I was only writing it for fun (as with pretty much everything I write), with the basic idea being that post OoTP Harry is bitching at Dumbledore about getting some training and the old man cock-blocks him. About five seconds later, Harry is threatening to disappear and get training elsewhere, when he suddenly gets sucked into a vortex that appears out of nowhere and vanishes.

As it turns out, he was pulled into the future by some people that are determined to train him to beat Voldemort before they send him back to his proper time. They won't tell him what year it is, and they won't tell him whether they're training him because that's how he beat Voldemort in the first place, or if they're training him because he originally lost like a bitch and they're doing damage control.

I only wrote about 16k words of disjointed scenes, but there were a few fun ones; like Hermione telling him it's impossible to travel to the future because it hasn't happened yet, to which he replies that he didn't travel to his future, he was retrieved from their past.

Frustrating Hermione is fun, even if you like her.

Likewise, at one point Hermione realized that Harry had gotten involved with someone in the future, based on some photos she found in his room. She ends up calling the woman a tart or some such, at which point Harry informs her that A: neither of them had intended to get involved and B: that 'tart' was Hermione's X times great granddaughter. :awesome

It was actually a Harry/Gabrielle fic. She showed up not long after he got back to tell him how she'd spent the last few years heavily abusing time turners so she could study and train and grow up... basically so she'd be in a position to be with Harry as an equal in skills and age.

Then he informed her that he was actually about a year older than she thought he was, due to time travel, which caused her to burst into tears and have a small breakdown. Not that a year's difference is such a big deal, it's just that she'd nearly worked herself to death to be on equal footing and undershot it by a year due to an impossible to predict circumstance (which was, more or less, a variation on the same 'clever' trick she herself had used). It was kind of the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.

So there are probably a lot of 'future travel' stories out there... on people's hard drives.

Family Ties is James and Lily go to the future fanfic. It is readable but that's about the extent of it. Also, there is only one chapter.

A Tale of Two Empires is another. It has not been published at FF yet, so you can only find it in the WbA. It is a damn good story though with all the chances of it being an epic tale. Alas, Vlad hasn't update it in a while.

Countdown is another one-shot where Harry goes to the future.

There's also the HP/Starcraft crossover in the WbA section. That one's really good, just can't wait for more of it.

I remember seeing a few stories that involved Lily and/or the Maruaders coming to Harry's time during his school years.

They weren't particularly good, sort of like the 'Maruaders/Lily/Whoever reads Harry Potter and the XXX' stories that constantly crop up. Only difference was they weren't reading but were in fact there.

    Didn't really improve things.

But I'd definitely read a good version of that.

Hehe. Appreciated, but, trust me, it's Do Not Want material. I am completely incapable of writing in chronological order (Which may or may not be ironic in regard to time travel stories).

Rorschach might be capable of posting stories piecemeal and then putting them together as he goes, however my scraps differ from his in a few vital respects...

    1. He still writes them somewhat chronologically.
    2. His are still reasonably entertaining, even out of context.
    3. He eventually finishes his stories.
    4. I know the difference between then and than.
Just the fact that I don't finish anything would have the few people that liked it howling for my blood.

There are definitely a lot of fics where the Marauders go to Harry's school years around, but most time travel fics about them don't change anything, which has killed the genre for me.

What I find the worst sort of HP story is those ridiculous "The Marauders find the HP books". They're such a face palm fail that they should be deleted. And Warlocke...that story does sound pretty fucking awesome.

Family ties I found to be a very interesting (and funny) read, as he bashes Dumbledore in a different way than normal. (More like because he's somewhat calmer than the average bashing Dumbledore story). He also pretty much crashes James' and Lilys' world view of Dumbledore in a tasteful manner.

Lost time is also pretty good, even though it's not been updated in a while.

I agree with all the 'marauders read HP books' are terrible. Nearly all of them have Lily/james becoming suddenly parental over Harry, who is the same age as them. Gag me please. There is a use for them though. I don't have electronic versions of the books so if I am looking to copy a passage from canon I take it from one of these stories instead, assuming the author copied them correct in the first place.

As it turned out, I have already read three stories that have been recommended that I forgot I read. I've seen Lost time crop up a lot on my ff searches, but I had yet to actually read it so I finally did.

@warlocke I have read something similar, I don't remember the title though and I can't find it in my bookmarks. Order members perform a ritual to bring someone from another universe who had already killed Voldemort since their HP was killed as a child. I think Harry's solves the problem and eventually gets sent back to his own time. He eventually returns to the alternate dimension i think though. It is more of a dimensional travelling story than a time-travelling one.
