    Title: Trial by Fire
    Author: celticbard
    Rating: M
    Genre: Crossover, Drama, Horror/Dark
    Status: Complete (42773 words)
    Library Category: The Alternates
    Pairings: none
Summary: Draco lifted his head, blinking the blood away from his eyes. Pain seized him, throwing him against the driver’s seat with all the force of the Cruciatus Curse. Mocking shards of memory danced through his dazed mind. The sirens. The cop. The slick road. His car was nestled against a guardrail, the remnants of his shattered headlights dusting the blacktop like frost. And outside, the sky wept soot.

The only HP character in the fic is Draco, but this doesn't detract from it. It is a crossover with Silent Hill, which I don't know myself, but is not necessary to know to enjoy the story, everything is explained. I have not found the story anywhere on this site, and I believe it is worthy of the library.

The premise is just after the end of the war, the Malfoys are separated and Draco is in exile in the US. His use of magic is restricted, so after a muggle in a bar starts a fight, he disables them and flees to Silent Hill using his car. A muggle police officer, whose suspicion he already raised earlier, follows him, which Draco tries to evade. They crash their cars and end up in Silent Hill, where they have to rely on each other for survival.

The characterisation of Draco is in my opinion well done. Maybe he is slightly too open minded towards muggles, but it never seems unnatural. He is disdainful at first, but the developement to eventual acceptance seems to work. The other main character is an OC, but with a good characterisation.

The description of the scenery and surrounding left nothing to be desired, the plot is excellent. I have not read something so compelling to read on in a long time.

There are few minor spelling errors, but nothing catastrophic

The one thing I didn't like so much is the last chapter, which
is a little angsty, but it's not too bad and serves to close the plot.

It has a sequel, which I have not read yet.

    Gah. Spoiler alert.

Only a ponce and a muggle. And 'NO MAGIC'? This is Harry Potter and magic is a must. Will give it a try.

I changed the part about the last chapter, I thought without specifics it wouldn't really spoil.

And there will be magic, eventually.

You were right. The technical aspect of writing is pretty good. However, is USA some sort of a criminal reforming country where the Law Enforcement takes criminals from around the world?

If anything, Draco would be under house-arrest in Britain itself or in a prison. The entire premise sounds a little hard to believe.

I'd give it a 3/5 for the first few chapters. Will read on to see if it's library worthy.

And man, I haven't been in this fanfiction site since forever. :sherlock

Interesting idea. Silent Hill torment Draco with the sins of his past should be interesting, but it really isn't.

Draco's characterization seems to be borrowed from the side of HP/DM slash fics. At least I assume so, because it ain't canon. Also all the "poor trapped death eaters" rhetoric gets grating rather quickly.

You should have posted this in AR or the xovers thread. It would fit right in.
