Someone recommended The Night Manager to me. I knew nothing about it, but given the name I had less than high hopes.

It's a BBC miniseries, six episodes long - two of which have already aired - starring Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston.

The easiest way to describe it is how I had it described to me: It's Tom Hiddleston's auditon for the Bond role.

I'm loving it so far. Curious what you all think.

The first episode was fantastic. I haven't seen episode two yet, due to being too ill to concentrate on anything serious, but if they maintain the standard over all six episodes then it's going to a strong contender for best series of the year, even at this early stage.

Fair warning to Le Carre purists: it's been updated to the present, kicking off in the Arab Spring. I've not read the novel, so I don't know how much if any difference that makes, but I know it's the kind of thing that can hack people off.

I've watched what's been released so far. Overall it's quite good but I have to say that Hiddleston is just not on par with the rest of the cast. I'm not familiar with the source novel, but Hiddleston just doesn't fit the role in my mind. I'll give him a chance, but compared to Olivia Colman and Hugh Laurie, he's been distinctly unimpressive.
