I suppose wandless magic is a possibility in canon - after all, if one can speak the words of a spell in your head, then if you had enough concentration you could do the wand movements at the same time in your head...but it would require lots of focus.
The problem with wandless magic in fanfiction is that often people make it a completely different form of magic (i.e. chucking around balls of energy etc), rather than simply doing spells without a wand.

 

But than your getting into intent based magic, if that's the caase than all any wizard would have to do is focus their magic on the intent of what they want rather than focusing their magic on the words and movements. I don't really know if will and intent focused magic could be constude as two diffrent forms of magic but would like to think that they could be seen that way

 

If you think about it, the earliest forms of wandless magic might have just been throwing around balls of magical energy. It's comparitvely easier to get the ball of energy than it would be to perform a complex spell. If a person can summon up the sphere, then it would only require practice to change the frequency the energy is on to create the desired effect.

 

That's if the person has the power and the mind to focus their magic into a ball of energy, plus than you start delveing into the theory of spell mechanics and the mechanics of other frequency based magics

 

LNB, i really do think that having dementors seizing you IS a LIFE THREAT, and as such, the risk of burning some tissue is minor against being kissed.

 

Throwing around magic balls makes no sense in my eyes. I think it !may! be possible to form a ball of magic in your hand, but you coulnt throw magic like that.As soon as it leaves your hand it would loose its size and form because you cant control it anymore. Also the amount of "pure" magic needet to harm your oppunent would be far too much for anyone to have.
