From what I have read, and past experiences with Harbringer's fics, I'd say this one is worth a click. The resaon Dumble's wants Harry dead is original to say the least.

 

... rad this... not all that great... and the latest chapter has the harry's parrents have portraits in the vault cliche... not worth the effort..

 

It does? Crap! I didn't get that far! That is very over used, ne? The thing about clches is that when they are first used, they seem so good, and then everybody uses them.

 

Hmm...Evil!Dumbledore = absolute crap as far as I'm concerned. I need read no further than the summary.

 

DUmbledore isn't evil....Just foolish and maybe naive and gullible.

Evil!DUmbledore is NEVER believable. Manipulative? Yes, but Evil no. Everything he does, he does because he TRULY believes it is the "right" thing to do.

Hmm.. I may do a challenge on that, since I've never seen a evil Dumbles done well either..

hmm off the top of my head, something like Dumbles and Voldemort fight to near death, Voldemort recovers first, his body shattered, he abandons it and possesses Dumbledore. Dumbledore is shunted to the back of the mind unable to do anything.

Harry eventually kicks Voldemort out of the headmaster's body, but Dumble's personality slowly slips more and more towards dark/insane since he cannot cope with what Voldemort did while in his body.

Hmm maybe I will write that up as a challenge, dunno, I just so freaking sick of the manipulative bastard being written poorly as a evil lunatic

This is a new spin on the independent!Harry genre in that Harry doesn't run away over the summer "to train", or just for being angry that Dumbledores a "Manipulative Old Codger".

Dumbledore wants Harry dead. Because Harry and Voldemort's bond, their life forces are so intertwined, if one dies, the other as dies as well. Hearing his friends discuss the time of murder, Harry leaves Hogwarts.

It does have some cliches, but they are bearable and soemtimes help the story.

Amazingly, Harry doesn't whine all that much about Dumbles, just where it is needed. Also, this seems like it has some Politics involved, with some serious market takeovers.

Like above, the pairing is Harry/OC. Harry wants a wife (or just a mother) to bear an heir. That's it. The author has expressed interest in the idea of Harry cloning himself rather than having a son. Personally, this would be much cooler. PM him and persuade him to do that.

I'd give this a 8/10 -> 9/10.

 

I followed this story from the beggining. I like the first 4 chapters, the newest 2 less.

 

I don't much care for this story but there are some original points and some that are in almost every average story

 

I couldn't get through the first twenty paragraphs. The writing was terrible and the dialogue made me cringe. I don't know, maybe it gets better later, but I just shook my head and clicked the [X] button probably a minute into reading. I'll skip the beginning and try to read more. Maybe it gets better.

EDIT: *Evil Ron who secretly hates Harry *New Trunk, though not uber. *Random contact lenses. *Illegal deals with the goblins. *Random dark arts books with no explanation of why he's suddenly into illegal magic. *Going to Knockturn for new wands. *Random mage sight coming out of no where.

These I just found in the first chapter. /me cringes.

 

Saw it and have only been through the first chapter so far, but I think I will keep reading...aren't stories supposed to get a number of positive reviews before they get moved into the library though?

Or was the original library composed of what the members at the time felt worthy of the library?

Probably give it a 2.5/5 right now, cliche after cliche on the first chapter and the writing seems a bit off, like how the author writes and doesn't show...or is it shows and doesn't write?

 

Wow. This is pretty damn bad. Too many cliches coming one after another. Points for originality with Dumbledore not bothering manipulate Harry, but it plummets so far into the negatives it hurts. It seems that after that part was over, the story devolved to the author actively trying to incorporate as many cliches as possible.

On top of that, her writing itself sucks a big one. The only thing worse than reading cliches is reading badly written cliches.

I truly dread to see what the author's writing looks without a beta. She even managed to screw up her penname. It took me almost a minute before I realized that she meant Harbinger, but mispelled it as Harbringer.

 

It also appears to be abandoned. If you notice the date this was first submitted in April 2006. DLP didn't have the review system then.

 

There's another thread for the same fic exists at this address: http://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=1752. In both, the ratings were low, and not at all close to earning the story a place in the library.

Recommended course of action: recycle bin with extreme prejudice.
