Saw Lincoln Monday night and it was incredible. Daniel Day-Lewis /became/ Abraham Lincoln. I don't know if his nose has always looked like that or if its prosthetics/makeup, but especially in profile he looked uncannily like the rare photos of Lincoln.

Sally Field played an excellent Martha Lincoln and I appreciated that the script gave their relationship a high level of complexity, not taking the easy route of her being a harridan or simply crazy, or Lincoln as a spotless saint. Don't get me wrong, Lincoln comes out about as clean as any politician could, but the audience sees the cracks in his demeanor and the effort it took to be who he was and do what he did.

Based off Kearns-Goodwin's Team of Rivals, which I highly recommend, though be warned that the movie gives a view into only a fairly short time-frame of the Civil War.

Anyway, go see this movie. I feel bad for any other male actors hoping for an Oscar this year, 'cause that ship has sailed.

Hey, it's Daniel Day-Lewis. Of course he became Lincoln. I wouldn't expect anything less for him. And I agree that he has a big chance to get an Academy Award. I mean, this role was already a classic Oscar bait.

Then again, you never know anything for sure with the Academy.

So, bit of a bump because I just saw Les Miserables and I couldn't find a thread for it.

Verdict: it's good. Better than I expected, actually. But it's not great, let down by Russell Crowe's lacklustre performance, some sets that show a budget that ran out, and some frustrating bad direction, providing all the more evidence that the Oscar Tom Hooper won for The King's Speech was a mistake.

I reviewed it here, but if you're a fan of the musical, I recommend checking it out. It's probably the best possible adaptation of the musical you're ever going to get.

Just saw Django and it was one of the best movies I saw this year. Foxx was amazing and Waltz was a fucking badass the entire time.

I saw Django last night. Pretty standard Tarantino fare, but the funny was turned up to 11.

SLJ deserves an Oscar for Stephen.
I don't think I've ever been so sad to see such a conniving bad guy get blown up.

I finally watched it. It's a great movie telling a story about being old and slowly losing your memory. And then there is titular Robot and I really liked how realistic it was portrayed. Especially how easily we can be lead to believe that a robot is a thinking being only to realize that everything it does is just a part of its core programming.

And we will see similar robots in our houses sooner than many expect.
