Just saw 'Ted' last night - longer review is here, but here's the short one: despite a few elements in the supporting cast and a few jokes that didn't quite work, this movie kicks all amounts of ass, particularly if you like old school Family Guy and classic nerd movies. Highly recommended.

My friend is asking me to go watch ALVH with him. Yay or Nay?

I know I should not expect a masterpiece but is it worth watching?

It's legitimately terrible. But on the plus side, if you go into it expecting a terrible movie, you'll probably enjoy the more ridiculous bits. I know I did.

I absolutely hated it. If I wasn't at the drive-in, I would have walked out.

Looks good. I just hope the story is better than QoS.

I wonder if Silva (Javier Bardem) was mocking Bond when he called M mammy, maybe suggesting that he was ex-agent similar to 007.

Or it could be that he was saying this literally and he is her son. It would give us a really interesting dynamic between him as a bad son and James as a good "son".

I thought everybody at MI6 called M mom in some fashion. Or maybe it's just the way the English say ma'am sounds a lot like an American saying mom.

I always perceived them to be saying ma'am. The old M was always referred to as 'Sir' or 'M', there's no need to break tradition and have people start calling them some sort of pet name.

It's ma'am. It's the proper way to address a female superior officer, after all.

Incidentally, the correct (British English) way to say "ma'am" is to rhyme with "ham", not "harm".

I tried to find the bit from The King's Speech where they explain it, but no one has uploaded it to YouTube (for some reason, I'm always surprised when I can't find exactly what I want on YouTube lol, even when it's a really specific desire like a random 10 second segment from a film).

Pretty sure that it was The Queen and not The King's Speech.

Might be both. It's definitely in the King's Speech - it's a common enough comparion (ma'am with ham).

Bitch, please. Daniel Craig is a Bond similar to Sean Connery, in that they're more of a brawler/fighter, whereas Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnon (or however the fuck his name is spelled) were more of the suave kind of guy.

Wanna know something awesome? In the books, Bond is both. Suave, but he'll get into a fistfight when he needs to. Gadgets are few and far between.

And even better, you want to know the actor who portrayed Bond the best? Timothy Dalton. Yeah, the guy who nobody liked.

Also, Daniel Craig is portraying a very young James Bond. In Casino Royale he only just got his 00 status. This series of movies with him we've been seeing is very much an origin story, showcasing how he came to be the kind of person who was fast and loose with women and saw them more as objects to be acquired rather than an actual person. He has rage issues as well, and that's a far cry from the cold killer he is later on.

Sean Connery is perfectly suave. And Daniel Craig is a very decent generic action star, he just isn't Bond. In the least.

Fucking this. Living Daylights is my favourite Bond film (From Russia With Love coming a close second).

I much prefer Craig's Bond, but I think that has a lot to do with the writing. I just went back and watched Brosnan's Bond and well...he comes off as really sleazy for some reason. His dumb double entendres and unprofessional hitting on everything with a hole just irks me.

At least Craig was quieter. It's definitely better than the stuff we were getting before.

    /blasphemy.
