From the trailers i assumed Dread was a futuristic and shittier version of The Raid, so i haven't really given it much thought.

Going by reviews i will check it out next week.

He probably does. What he pointed out is correct. Apart from the typical 80's-aesthetic Judge Dredd trappings, the plot of Dredd is very similar to last year's Indonesian action flick, The Raid: Redemption.

Yeah, everyone is pointing it out. But in truth Dredd ended its filming when The Raid was just getting started.

But that's what you get for keeping the movie too long on the shelf.

    Lincoln.

I really want this movie to be awesome. I mean, made by Steven Spielberg and played by Daniel Day-Lewis should be awesome. But trailer is meh in my opinion.

The next one is for 2013, but it looks great.

    Stand Up Guys.

Al Pacino and Christopher Walken as a pair of old criminals.

I've seen it. Don't exactly remember the previous movie, but it's still easy to follow. And if you want to watch an action movie it's an enjoyable and good one.

Hey what the fuck do you know about Dredd? Nothing since you cant even spell it right. ;)

So i watched the film and it was brutal and very satisfying, there were a few similarities to The Raid, but there was more than enough Dredd lore to give the film its very distinctive style.

The film was enjoyable and some of the supporting characters were very good, Lena Heady as Ma Ma was great to watch and Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson was great as an introduction into the world of the Judges.

    Great Movie, definitely worth watching.

Well, its not even in production yet, but I couldn't stand to make an entire thread devoted to this movie. But Emma Watson has implied she would be willing to do nude scenes in an upcoming fanfiction inspired movie. I just think its hilarious and kind of sad that she is willing to associate herself with a movie based on Twilight fanfiction.

Well no matter its origins(And i wonder how many of you that criticize that if Distant Star by Joe Ducie would make it into a movie) it is one of the most popular books that exist. It also doesn´t say much about the quality of the movie and least but last it would offer her a great chance to distance herself from the Hermione image.

But enough of that.. watched Savages today and I really liked that movie. Good action, a relationship that is interesting and a solid plot make it one of the better movies this year.

A few trailers of Chinese Zodiac. Can't believe that Jackie is almost sixty years old. Then again he already had his first old master role.

And as much as I dislike unnecessary remakes, I think it would be awesome to have him play the Master in Drunken Master.

Saw Looper the other week, and I'd recommend it. It's well acted, a cool - and mostly well thought out - time travel premise, some badass action, good script...not quite 'this generation's Matrix', as some posters have declared, but well worth a watch.

In my opinion Looper shows why timetravel is a really bad idea, especially if you mix it with telepathic powers. The movie is only enjoyable if you don´t think about the logic behind it.

For example: If he never killed the mother of the psychotic child he would never felt the need to travel back and so would have never killed her.

    Except that's not what happened.

There's a whole sequence that shows how he reached the point where he decided to go back, and it had nothing to do with killing the mother. Looper doesn't operate on a stable time loop theory of time travel; it's more like changing the past creates an entirely new branching universe. Sure, someone probably did kill her, and it was probably a Looper, leading to the future Rainmaker closing all the loops, but it wasn't Joe who did it.

Rainmaker was supposed to grow up to become a bad guy. His mother hoped that she would be able to influence him and he would turn out to be a good guy. But the problem was that he did not believe she was his mother.

Willis' coming back, results in JGL going to the rainmaker and clearing up the confusion, which leads to rainmaker accepting his mother and now she may well be able to steer him from the path of crime. This was enough to save Willis' girlfriend.

But Willis did not see this. JGL did. So Willis still goes after the rainmaker while he doesn't have to. (Here I wondered why Willis just did not disappear, I think that is because changes to Willis occur as the original timeline is 'overwritten' (so to speak), seeing as how he can only remember the new timeline once stuff in it has happened, so Willis would simply disappear when his girlfriend wouldn't have died)

But as I said Willis still goes after rainmaker, and there comes a point where he is about to shoot his mother. If he did it, JGL's intervention would mean nothing and rainmaker would grow up to be a bad guy again. So effectively Willis' coming back to past would have replaced the original reason for his girlfriend's death. It was never the reason to begin with.

JGL realizes this. And shoots himself.

Once again, no one 'killed' the mother in the first timeline, rainmaker just didn't accept that she was his mother. Which was the reason for, among other things, Willis's girlfriend's death.

Did you just spoil this movie, Castiel? I didn't even read what else you wrote in your post, but the second to last paragraph really stands out.

Saw Cloud Atlas today. Definitely worth the price of admission, but I didn't come away feeling overly-satisfied. It was visually stunning and the acting is absolutely phenomenal, but the less-than-profound philosophical pandering that everything is connected seriously got on my nerves.

It was basically an English Major's wet dream.

I also saw Cloud Atlas today. Very engrosing, and I reccomend seeing it with other people so that you can compare notes. It is not something you sit down for at 3 hours long and demand to be entertained. The movie makes you work to get everything, and even then you will miss a lot. (hence why going with friends to help cover bases helps). Despite the brutality of it, I was never really emotionally engaged aside from a place in the end. It is a much more mentally stimulating film than emotionally.
Also, Best Make-up Artist Oscar has now been decided. Good lord, the credits at the end had a few "That was him?"
