It's a genuine struggle to disagree strongly enough.

    ...

"yeah- yeah! Do you like that, Siri?"

    "No... No I don-"

    "Yeah! YEAH!"

Just saw the new Percy Jackson...:facepalm
No idea what I was expecting but damn was I disappoint.

They added things from later books here and changed way too much shit. I mean they totally changed the back story of riptide and even Kronos' first defeat...
Poseidon doesn't use a fucking sword!!
And Mist in a bottle? That's not how it works!!
    Also...they changed the prophecy. :colbert:

And possibly the most annoying thing... they made Clarisse way too hot! I'm sad to admit that I'm kind of craving a Percy/Clarisse fanfic goddammit.

This, more or less. The acting was pretty crappy at times, and the black guy's accent kept shifting all over the place (was he supposed to be British? American? Who knows?), but the action scenes were gorgeous. And what more should anyone expect form a movie about giant robots beating up giant monsters? If I had one stylistic complaint, it's that it always seemed to be raining.

Damnit, I knew they were going to do this. What exactly is it that repulses them so much about sticking to the book? Im even more irritated about this one since Nathan Fillion being in it had me actually optimistic.
Yeah that doesn't bother me that much especially since the girl who plays Annabeth is fairly meh and cant act for shit.

So watched both Lone Ranger and Elysium...

Lone Ranger was ok... it was an entertaining movie with some funny scenes (the rabbits for example) that didn´t take itself serious (always important) and some nice references to other movies (Like the Helms Klamm scene near the mine with Indians)

Elysium.. not as bad as I feared but sadly still full of holes in both plot and logic. Exoskeleton without armor or helmet, old school villas on the space station and even the scene where he gets his radiation dose is bullshit... I could continue this list endlessly but what really destroyed it was the scene where the bad guy gets healed. The rest of the people bleed out in seconds and are declared dead while he survives for hours when half his brain is blown out.
If you don´t think too much a nice movie but the more you think the worse it gets.

Elysium had some very nice sci-fi action, but beyond that it was nothing to really write home about. In addition to the above complaints (though that scene with Kruger getting his face blown off and then healed was cool in a morbid sort of way), the stratification between the rich and poor was extremely exaggerated to the point where I just couldn't believe it. It's obvious the director just wanted to make some hamfisted OWS social commentary. Maybe the commentary would've been fine if he could've been more subtle.

I liked the main character though.

I'm sure I'm a bit biased because I actually liked the sledge- hammer directness of the social commentary in "Elysium", but the movie is not as bad as Erandil made it sound in his review.

It's true that there are some very huge logic/plot holes
(another: Why would the capitalist elite on Elysium use earth based shoulder fired missiles to destroy incoming refugee ships?!)
and tons of cliches like the obligatory romance, Max's "destiny" or the super- mercenary as wanna- be rapist.

BUT- the movie also has incredible visuals, fast paced and gripping action scenes, some witty dialogue (especially in the first 15 minutes), urban settings that breath the gritty reality of third world slums, a surprising but very fitting twist regarding the main villainess and Matt Damon as a believable and reluctant ex- con working class hero.

Best of all, it's a 100 million dollar (!!!) blockbuster action flick that transports a very clear message: Capitalism has fucked up.

    3,5/5 rounded up to 4/5

Elysium is a classic example of a pretentious movie that tries to convey some high-handed sociological message and forgets to tell a good story, despite all the explosions.

Elysium is essentially Wall:E, but with guns and explosions instead of a believable world and plot structure. There's two potentially great films in there. One is a serious drama about the gulf between Elysium and Earth, possibly with a Schindler's List style plot. The other is a romp about people in power armour chasing each other round and blowing shit up. They tried to do both though, and succeeded at neither.

So I watched "We are the Millers" and really liked it. I found it really funny and it really has no shame (I was really surprised/shocked that they really showed the spider bite... and here I thought America was still prudish).

As someone who doesn't like crude humor very much... at least not the simplistic kind, would I like this movie much?

    Meh.

It was basically Pitch Black with a semi-new plot and painfully mediocre action scenes. Honestly, the only exciting, heart-pounding part of the movie was when he was sneaking around the camp mindfucking the mercs and killing the crewman #6s.

Oh and the whole 'Riddick's masculinity is so appealing that he can arouse a dyed-in-the-wool lesbian' bit was absolutely cringe-worthy. I mean really... WTF?

There's a baseline pleasure you have to take away from Riddick. Kick-ass assassin from a dead race, within cowboy space ships and a crazy sci-fi setting. Any actual compelling plot and credible acting is frosting.
