The black guy is Idris Elba. He's from England...so yeah. He does American accents fine as he was in The Wire.

I am Commander Lutris, and this is my favorite trailer on the Citadel.

Fucking pure unadulterated awesome in that trailer. Fuck the (likely) crappy plot. I don't care. It's fucking eldritch kaiju aliens versus gigantic mecha Titans having fist fights featuring Idris Elba and GLADoS.

 

The first 30+ minutes of this movie are going to be terrible and boring, because it's going to be the first responders, a timeskip, and a training montage for characters we probably won't give two shits about. Basically Cloverfield and the boring parts of NGE in fast forward.

Only the last forty minutes or so are going to have cool action sequences and giant robot on giant monster fighting.

And you've already sold me the ticket and DVD, just for that.

I would have sexual relations with this movie if I could.

Here's a fun drinking game: count the science fiction and giant robot references. Just in the trailer alone, I've seen Halo, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Godzilla, Lovecraft, Gundam, Mech Warrior, Portal, and Mazinger.

My friend proposed using Jagerbombs, in honor of the main mech. I pointed out that the trailer alone would kill you if you were slamming those back. If what we've seen so far is anything to go by, freaking wine coolers would kill you before the first half of the movie was over.

And they're already way in for the budget on this thing. I read writeups about it almost a year ago. The largest set in North America was barely able to contain a single foot of one of the giant robots. They're having to fly all over the world just to find sets big enough for the non-CGI shots.

 

I'll admit, when I saw that first shot of them walking into that chamber at 0:50, I initially thought this was an X-COM movie.

Not sure how well that would go down in execution, but it honestly dampened my enthusiasm for the awesome, but not quite as awesome, followup.

 

I'm going to go on ahead and assume you're from a different, and possibly younger, school of science fiction thought than I am. Because giant robots make EVERYTHING better.

If X-COM had been exactly the same, but instead of soldiers, you were fielding giant robots against equally sized giant aliens?

Ten thousand times better than what the game is right now.

If Mass Effect 3 had been exactly the same, but the plot coupon found on the Mars base was schematics on how to give the Square-Cube law the finger using Mass Effect technology, and the Alliance had used it to rebuild the Normandy into a giant robot (Garrus on guns, Tali and the ME2 engineers in engineering, Joker piloting and Shepard on the Neural-lace command bridge), and you had to go to all of the other planets and convince all of the other races to sink resources into building giant robots of their own to combat the invading hordes of giant Cthulhu robots, mixing on-foot squad missions with massive ground, sea, and space battles against the Reapers in giant robots? Humans build Normandy-class Gundams, the Turians build Jet-transformers, the Asari build iRobots, the Salarians build smaller, electronic warfare mechs that can cloak, the Quarians build Voltron by modifying their ships, the Geth build the biggest goddamn Geth platforms you've ever imagined seeing, and the Krogans just wing it Ork style with whatever giant guns and machine parts they've got lying around Tuchanka?

Ten million times better than what the game is right now.

Pokemon. Goddamn Pokemon. Only 'Trainers' pilot giant robots and all Pokemon are freaking enormous and need to be trained to fight off other giant Pokemon that are innately hostile to all life on the planet, and can only be curtailed by Trainers in giant robots working together with teams of giant monsters that they have befriended?

Arguably better than what the series is right now.
