Eh, it's the kind of thing I have a hard time articulating, mostly because I've spent a lot of time interacting with people outside of my social group in bars/clubs/other social settings. I spent a good year of my life very much living the club/PUA/binge scene, and I've seen a lot of otherwise 'normal' people in my generation fall very much into it, often times without the self-awareness to say otherwise. Hell, if I go out to the club I'm planning to tonight, I'll see plenty of it. You see a lot of shocking and disturbing honesty from people in these environments.

I also have the (mis)fortune to have a job where I'm easily the youngest person in the office, so I get a lot of the 'older' POV on our generation as well, most of which is from people who aren't as smart but just as actively opinionated. Keep in mind DLP contains a lot of people of above-average intellect, if not higher - we're not typically considered the 'standard' of our generation, and even with that, most of us are all too aware of the bleakness of some of our situations going forward. You spend time outside of that circle, you get fresh, blindingly clear perspective.

And just because I'm self-aware enough to articulate my own existential crises doesn't mean I'm the only one - indeed, from the people I've talked to in that sadly honest point too many people reach in the bar setting, there are a ton of people who fit in line with my description. Too many people who feel they have no shot of going anywhere because there are no jobs and their dreams seem insurmountable, half because their dreams were conditioned by a society that told them they could have anything and everything. And now those of us who are dealing with the bitter taste of reality either do one of two things: drench everything in ironic detachment (see Tim Heidecker's performance in The Comedy, the ideal companion piece to this movie) or force themselves into intoxicated oblivion, grabbing onto any scrap of sincere emotion like a drowning man grabs a broken board.

So while I might be okay in this situation - I have a job, my own apartment, no real debt - there's way too many people who don't have those luxuries, and I can't help but feel empathy towards them. As I said, I spent close to a year of my life in an analogous situation, I get it.

I just finished watching G.i.joe retaliation. Sad to say it's as bad as I expected it to be, but mainly the plot ruined what could have been a pretty good sequel in the first 30 min. The redeeming qualities?

The almost wonder woman star Adrianne palicki as lady jaye and her fabulous curves, Bruce Willis and the ninja fight scenes. Otherwise, skip it. It will leave you scratching you head and thinking wtf?

Dammit. The viral trailer was good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6wFpovHtnc

I was hoping it'd be indicative of an overall cohesive creative vision and direction. Guess not. The viral trailer stands on its own well enough, I suppose.

    Goddamit, Hasbro. Wrongbro.

It reeks of outside intereference. Plenty of vehicles/equipment were seen many times in various scenes, and they mostly did not contribute a thing to the development of the plot or the characters. Probably placed there for the maximum advertising of hasbro's toys.

Just coming here to post that trailer, damn it.

Yeah, that looks fucking sweet. Between Michael Cera being an asshole and '...Hermione just stole all of our shit', this movie looks gloriously silly in the best possible way.

Looks awesome, I dislike that they gave away some of the deaths though. Yeah, we knew that they were gonna happen anyway but the way they died should have stayed a surprise.

I just saw the trailer for The Great Gatsby and I beginning to wonder if updating the story for modern tastes is going to ruin the best parts of the source material. Gatsby, the character, works because he is so mysterious. The reader never actually knows what is truth and what is in universe hearsay. The end of his story is tragic and satisfying in its lack of closure.

The trailer makes it out that the movie is going to show every speculative idea as character back story, in addition to being more graphic about the Daisy/Gatsby relationship.

I feel this incarnation of the classic source material will be weaker for it. Sometimes showing less is indeed more, in terms of storytelling.

Ehhh. If you're referring to those flashbacks with Gatsby, I think they're just going to be thrown in as visuals while he's telling Nick about his exploits, not hard confirmed. There just isn't much reason to do so.

I last read the book in high school, but wasn't pretty much everything about Gatsby revealed by the end? His father told the narrator everything.

IIRC, You learn a little, mostly how he became who he was. But, nothing was in detail.

Honestly, I really think that the only way it was going to be produced was if it turned more romancey, instead of what it is. I hope not, but I expect a lot more on the Gatsby/Daisy and Jordon/Carraway.

On a different note, The Sea Of Monsters trailer came out today. I think it might actually be worse than the first. No idea what's going on with the mechanical buzzsaw bull.

Spike Lee is doing a remake of Park's Oldboy. Yeah, I'm not expecting much from that one.

I will say I fucking hate The Great Gatsby as a book, I found it dull and annoying in my high school class and in a later re-read. I took no pleasure in it whatsoever. That being said, I hope the movie will be a decent adaptation so I can actually possibly enjoy it. Also, Emma Watson with an axe is both hot as fuck and scary as shit.

The first wasn't bad as far as standalone awful kiddie movies go. The reason it was bad was because it wasn't a standalone movie and destroyed any type of setup for the rest of the series (which only got better, imo). How exactly is Percy supposed to bathe in that river styx?

This trailer actually seems to be setting up for the rest of the movies and hell, they look to have made Annabeth a blonde! I'm looking forward to it, but it will probably still be a rent.

Nathan Fillion is in it. I'll be seeing it just for that.

Im going to go see this just because Nathan Fillion is in it but I do not have high hopes for this in the slightest. These have the possibility of being great movies if they would just stick to the damned books but they insist on changing important plot lines constantly and it just fucks up everything. When the first movie was coming out I was completely hyped for it but when I saw how they kept screwing up the plot disappointed doesn't even half way cover it. The writers should have been kicked in the balls repeatedly the second they presented anything that wasn't identical to the book.

Don't know if this had been mentioned yet with everyone hyped for Iron Man Tres like me, but just saw the trailer for The Purge and for some reason the idea fucked with my head.

The premise is that in the near future, all is right with America again because the government in its infinite wisdom decided that for one night a year for 12 hours there would be no law and let people do whatever and 'purge' on everybody else.

And of course, shit happens. Kinda interested, to be honest. Concept feels new relatively and the theme reminds me of The Crazies.

And this trailer review is hilarious.

I really like the concept behind it but that little girl is so criminally retarded its painful to watch. When it's the one tiny part of the year where she knows perfectly well that people can do whatever the hell they please and they will get away with it scot free, shutting off the security system for some random guy that for all she knows could be trying to trick her is just so inconceivably stupid.
