First, overreact much? Second, that's funny, since I feel like I'm the only one on this site that actively dislikes ASoIaF and I've said as much numerous times in several different threads.

I hardly want to make every Marvel movie grimdark. But at the same time it sometimes goes too far in the other direction, and when they throw jokes around it kind of ruins things.

Like in Iron Man 3, when Tony's fighting Killian. All his suits were destroyed, but the Mark 42 is flying in and we think Tony's going to get a second wind and continue the fight with that. Then it just crashes and breaks apart anticlimactically, and they pass it off as another joke. Right in the middle of a tense moment. And then that campy scene where Pepper gets GURL POWER almost right after. Those really killed that whole part of the movie for me.
I relate with the kind of tone the recent Batman films and Man of Steel had. They're not ridiculously dark and depressing like your GoT example, but they take themselves a lot more seriously than pretty much any Marvel film so far.

Random observation: Jaime Lannister is more successful hero than Clark Kent. He managed to kill the bad guy before he destroyed the city. ;)

Was the villain in the trailer wearing mascara?

Hey is that Heli-carrier blown up, falling? That seems familiar, gee I wonder why .

They really should stop trying with Heli-carrier, It is tacky and unpractical it seems.

Right there with you. I hate it.

Personally, I just prefer DC in general.

That said, I haven't really enjoyed any of the recent movies out of the DC universe. There are so many fantastic stories that they can pull material from, and yet they always seem to piece together the worst possible combination for a movie...

We don't need the origin story to take up 2/3 of the movie. Not with characters like Batman and Superman.

Man of Steel would have been fantastic if they just went with Action Comics 1-8 (Skipping Poisoned Kryptonite, and shortening Rocket Song). Definitely not my favorite from the New 52, but it would be a perfect intro to the new Superman.

This also would have served as a great lead up into Justice League: War.

Which would make for a great start to a Justice League series of movies. AKA Clark/Diana, because Lois Lane is the shittiest character in all of comics, ever.

    ---

The Winter Soldier trailer looks alright.

A bit too many explosions for me, but that barbershop quartet line actually cracked me up.

    Looks pretty good.

Hope they pull of a twist with Bucky though tbh.

Scarlet looks awesome with straight hair. ;)

Clark/Diana is the shittiest pairing in all of comics, ever.

I haven't read that many comics but I've seen this opinion from a lot of people when they announced the SM/WW comic. Generally though they didn't really give much reason, they just said that the pairing sucked. Can you explain for a relatively uninformed comic fan why this is? I'm not sure what makes them so much worse than Clark/Lois or Diana/Steve Trevor or whatever. They have a hell of a lot in common (and I'm not just talking power wise) so it seems like their relationship would develop pretty naturally.

So that I'm not completely off topic: After that trailer, I'd say Cap 2 is shaping up to be my most anticipated Marvel movie of phase 2. The first was probably tied for my favourite of phase 1 with the first Iron Man movie so I had high hopes and the trailer definitely reaffirmed them.

It's more or less a shipping war. Don't expect too many rational reasons in it.

Eh, I could get into it and post quite a bit and derail this thread, but what Celestin said covers it to some extent.

Each time they come out with a new X-Men movie, I think it will be great. Then I watch the movies and the plot always lets me down. I suspect it'll be the same here.

The franchise pretty much fell apart after X2. First Class managed to be mostly decent, especially compared to Last Stand and Origins, but still wasn't as good as the first two movies. I haven't watched The Wolverine yet. But Bryan Singer is back for this one, so there's a chance for redemption. Good luck getting the clusterfuck of a timeline the X-Men movie series has developed to straighten out though, assuming that's their goal with the time travel plot.

I actually like all the X-Men movies, but I'm a clear minority.

Because they don't compliment each other terribly well at all as far as personalities go. Because there are people that are better for them out there that complete them and ground them in ways that they don't do to each other. Because it's happened canonically before in other dimensions and it's never worked out. Because one time it didn't work out in a way that wound up with planet Earth more or less enslaved.

    Quite a few reasons.

I actually think this is a clear improvement. The Wolverine's trailer actually made that movie look like something interesting and worth watching. Future Past is making the decision to show exactly how shit it's going to be right out of the gate. I feel that this is a firm step in the right direction. It dispels any self-inflicted delusions I might have that maybe this time they've made a decent X-Men movie.

The trailer tells you basically everything you need to know about the plot. Shitty-ass B-Movie future where everything is red-saturated and desolate, everyone is wearing body armor for no reason, and the armor is all black because this was written by actual twelve year olds, the plot is about Magneto and Professor X again because god-fucking-christ-almighty forbid we have any X-Men plot that doesn't revolve around them, and somebody thought there wasn't ENOUGH whinging teenage angst in the X-Men, so now we get to go back in time and put up with Professor X in his rebellious Nietzsche phase for forty five minutes to an hour.

Seeing how I doubt Hollywood would condone a scene where Hugh Jackman punches the everliving shit out of a kid in a wheelchair, I don't see how this is going to be remotely good.

I'm just waiting for them to introduce Onslaught so the Reddit and Tumblrfags can go full ship/10, like they aren't doing it already.

I'm not going to lie. At this point a talking racoon with a gun is going to be a bit of a relief.

Do you actually want me to explain this, or would you rather let the movie be your first exposure to them?

    [EDIT]

Yes. Because the surest way to resolve a confusing and tangled timeline of events is to introduce motherfucking time travel.

In the first X-Men movie, it is stated that it takes place in the "Near Future". My general understanding of the phrase means "5 Years from Now".

So, the first movie was released in 2000, meaning it takes place in 2005.

The second one clearly takes place several months after the first one (Logan arrives at the place he started looking for in X1).

So, the second one therefore happens in early 2006.

The third one obviously happens soon after the second one, as Jean's death seems to be a recent thing (and she's still alive beneath the lake, not starved to death).

X-Men Origins Wolverine takes place (mostly) in 1981 when the main events happen.

First Class happens in 1962 as it is stated so in the movie, no room for discussion here.

The Wolverine takes place after X3, and Logan is dealing with Jean's real death. He's living alone in the wilderness, half-crazy. I'm guessing at least a year must have passed (look at that beard!) so it happens in 2007.

Days of Future Past (as shown in the credits scene in Wolverine) happens 2 years after The Wolverine.

    So, using these facts:

    First Class - 1962
    Origins Wolverine - 1981
    X1 - Late 2005
    X2 - Early 2006
    X3 - Mid 2006
    The Wolverine - 2007
Days of Future Past - 2009
